Tom pulled off the shot that could be labeled, “One in a Million.” Only after recovery could I put all the pieces of the puzzle together, because I noticed a slice in the bucks hide about 4” long on the top of its back, but only through the hide. The shot turned out to be broadside 25-30 yards, the side of the deer facing Tom was passenger side or right side. When Tom called me and told me he shot a buck and it carried the arrow but there was no blood, I thought that’s weird, we decided to be safe, wait till first light in the morning to begin tracking. We started at the hit site and sure enough no blood anywhere, Hunter and I head off in the direction Tom said the buck took off and we find nothing and Hunter is not locked on. I restart Hunter only this time, nose down he heads off in the opposite direction, thru some very thick brush I have to fight my way through and 40-50 yards later we find our first blood 🩸. From then on Tom really wouldn’t have needed our help as there was a very consistent blood trail. Crazy that this deer went .25 of a mile with the hit I’m about to explain. When Tom shot, the deer ducked and spun to its left, the arrow glanced off the top of the deers back, slicing the hide. The buck turned so quickly now looking over its left shoulder the arrow glanced off its back and hits him in the area behind its jaw on its left side and connects with the Carotid artery. Now you know why I called this shot “One in a Million” this deer carried the arrow the entire way, where you see it in the pic is the way we found it.
Was super happy for Tom and glad Hunter and I could help find and help drag his deer out. Merry Christmas Tom and to all that are still hunting, miracles still happen during the Christmas Season 🦌.
