I came upon a treasure. This is a Mid-century Haywood Wakefield dresser. I’m guessing the year to be around the 1950’s. The Heywood furniture manufacturer was established in 1897, they specialized in making furniture out of solid Northern Yellow Birch. The furniture trade mark is being stained in Wheat, a slightly darker stain or Champagne, a paler hue. This piece would be an investment in quality and history, with exceptional craftsmanship, durability and resiliency .
I have this dresser sanded down to the bare birch wood. I am going to advertise this piece with no stain, so the potential buyer can choose the stain. I have found a company that actually sells the Haywood stain. In my research on this piece they sell anywhere between $1200-$2000.
The cost is attributed to the quality of construction and uniqueness of the birch wood. Also the commitment to originality. This company has a long history with many pieces still being sold today.
