We recently refinished this railing in Gladwyne for a customer. They originally had stained newels and railings that matched the steps (which will be carpeted soon) and iron balusters, which didn’t match the look the customer was going for in their home. We refinished the railings and newels black, then installed hard maple, pool-cue balusters from Carolina Stair Supply that we also finished in black. Lastly, we did a quick coat of black stain and floor topcoat on their powder room floor, which had already been sanded and refinished once before. We will be going back for touch ups and to install a bench seat in a few weeks - more photos to follow then!

Another one of our first jobs back after the truck accident. This job was done for a customer who built a beautiful rustic home on their farm in the Newfield/Franklinville area, and needed the perfect railing system to match. We used The Barnyard Boys for the railing parts on this one, as they supplied all of the lumber for the flooring throughout the entire home, and finished the look off with solid, oil rubbed bronze balusters from House of Forgings’ Wentworth collection. All of the railing parts were clear coated in our shop with multiple coats of flat-sheen polycarbonate top coat. We love how this came out, and the customer was very happy with the results as well. We absolutely enjoy these one-off design jobs and would jump at the chance to do another like this!

One of our first jobs after returning to work. This customer requested a rustic mantle with a simple, clean panel surround. We made our way up to The Barnyard Boys and selected this beautiful chunk of reclaimed barn wood, which we then stained dark walnut to compliment the customer’s existing hardwood floor. We CNC cut the panel surround in-house, and did all painting and finishing in our shop, reducing the amount of time in the customer’s home, giving this project a quick turnaround time.

A few weeks ago, we suffered a bit of a setback when Kristen totaled our work truck on the AC Expressway. An erratic driver cut her off as she was trying to change lanes; she avoided hitting all of the other cars, but rolled our truck 360 degrees and landed in an embankment. She is okay (relatively speaking), but we have been trying to recover and adjust our means of operating while waiting for our insurance company to complete the necessary paperwork in regard to the total loss of our truck and tools.

If anyone has reached out any time in the last 40 or so days, and did not receive a timely response, this would be why.

As previously mentioned, we are well on our way back to a fully normal operating schedule!

Yesterday, we finished a large custom library project in Mullica Hill. We designed the entire job in-house. All of the cabinet parts were CNC cut, then assembled and installed on-site. The cabinets were surrounded with white trim and inlay CNC-cut side panels, then finished off with stained oak bench seat tops to both compliment and contrast the customer’s existing oak floor. Full overlay shaker style doors were installed on the bench seats and lower cabinets to give a modern touch to the otherwise traditional look of the library, which was done to match the customer’s existing design throughout the home. We also executed all of the finishing on this project ourselves. Big shoutout to our millshop, Bossen Architietural Millwork Inc., for supplying us with all of the trim, oak, cabinet pieces, and cabinet doors for this job!

A few still photos of the custom cabinets with color-changing lights we installed today in West Deptford. We also hung a large timber beam (seen to the left side of some of the photos), which was taken from an 1800’s farmhouse that belonged to the customer’s grandparents, on their wall to act as a shelf to display photos and family heirlooms.

Today, we installed these custom cabinets with color-changing lights for a repeat customer of our’s in West Deptford. The lights in each cabinet can be changed independently, allowing for endless custom-color combinations, along with the basic white lighting also shown. These lights are also dimmable and programmable, allowing for even further customization. We will be returning in the coming weeks to install a pieced-in stone surround around the customer’s fireplace.

Here are some photos of our most recent project. There will be stone installed around the fireplace and under the hearth the second week of November by Smith's Chimney Service, LLC — we cannot wait to see it completed!

This customer opted for our solid CNC-cut panels with our proprietary design to eliminate the gaps and lines seen in typical “stile and rail” wood paneling. Everything was pre-cut and finished in our shop prior to installation, reducing the amount of time spent on-site. This also allowed for a quicker turn around time — the customer did not have to hire a painter to come in for finishing after the install was complete.

Check out the last few photos to see the “before!”

These are some photos of a railing, baluster, and stair tread package we installed for a customer in Sewell. We custom matched the stain color to the customer’s newly installed flooring, and chose white risers to brighten the staircase and to match the white pin-top balusters.

One of our recently completed projects. This customer opted to upgrade their railing system, and also have us add wainscoting and chair rail around their foyer and staircase. We supplied, installed, and stained the railing project ourselves to maximize productivity and turnaround time. Start to finish this project only 5 days. Our story..

My name is Kevin R. Goodwin, and I’m the owner of KevRGood Woodworking, trade name: Personal Design & Construction. I started my business journey almost 35 years ago, when I was a journeyman carpenter in the Union. My vast knowledge of carpentry started with my journeyman days, and continued to grow as I took on more intricate and complex projects. I’ve worked my way through every aspect of woodworking - from building trusses and framing houses, to installing large, intricate trim packages in custom homes. After working in the union and for other contractors for years, I decided to make the jump and start my own business. I felt as though my business and work ethics would set me apart from the rest. I wanted to do things differently; I wanted to make my business personal. Personal Design & Construction was created, and I began my journey out on my own to make a name for myself, to design and create things that would exceed every expectation that had been set.

From trim work, to staircases, to mantels and beyond, I look at each project and strive to make it the best, to make it something that will stand out from the rest. I am proud to say that I work personally with each and every customer. From the initial project design to the finishing touches, every customer deals directly with me from concept to completion.
