Reproduction Civil War era Limber Chest. This chest was made to be as accurate as possible following original drawings and specifications from historic texts. There are a few deliberate deviations (the lid stay and no ammunition dividers, also no white lead filling the screw slots) to make it a functional piece of furniture.

With the aid of a blacksmith friend, I created my own solid steel rivets for attaching the handles, hinges, and stays. The hasp bolt is ~20" long and goes the whole way through the chest and center divider, making it a particular challenge to line up accurately. Corners are mitered dovetails, cut by hand, radiused, and then reinforced with steel plates. The solid copper sheet wrapping the lid also provided its own set of challenges. The lid is made from a walnut rails and stiles and poplar panel, holding true to original construction materials.

All-in-all, Im pretty pleased with this one! Took a lot of research and had to learn some metal working to get it done right. I think it was worth it.

A friend asked if I could make a box where she could feed her cat that would keep their new puppy out of the cat food. I had a little fun with it. 🙂

Luckily for this build they'll get covered up and you'll never see them. ..........

Ever seen Apple wood before? Look at all those colors!!

I have quite a few logs of this to be sawn yet but this one we did last spring. Had a lot of twist and checks in it (lesson learned on getting rid of that sapwood!) It was dry so I salvaged what I could from the twisted boards and decided to see what it's looked like. Gorgeous! What should I build?!..........

I'm terrible at keeping social media updated... Made this cabinet in January for a client/friend. Was going for a simple, clean design. Made from stuff I had laying around the shop it's designed to hold a collection of essential oils. The door is book-matched curly maple, the back panel is book-matched English walnut and the carcass is black walnut. I used a piece of crotch walnut for a custom cabinet pull.

The black walnut was stained to maintain its dark color over time. The door was given a coat of waterlox to highlight the character but then most of it was sanded off and then finished with a waterbased satin poly to prevent the amber color that happens with an oil finish. The whole cabinet was then finished with multiple coats of waterlox. My favorite finish by far. I think it turned out pretty well and should provide ample storage for a lifetime of use!

Let me know what you think...........

Here is the finished product! I'm pleased with how this one turned out. I've never done a clock so I'll admit I cheated a bit and bought a plan for this one but I added some of my own pizzaz to it. White oak with a mission brown stain and an oil finish. This is a business 10 year anniversary gift. Let me know what you think!

Finishing up a build today! Stay tuned to see the finished product. (It's a gift so I can't show it off yet...🤫).
Any guesses what it might be? (Hint: it's a bit out of my norm and the first one I've ever built)

One of two fitted and ready for a glue up. Got away from this project this week while I milled up a bunch of lumber for my next project, but back at it today.
