Shop the Lake! We’ll post our specials tomorrow morning!
Let’s be real: we’ve all had those weekends where the highlight is just another mindless scroll through Amazon while drinking lukewarm coffee.
If your current routine feels like a repeat episode of a show you’ve already seen, it is officially time for a script flip. It’s time to grab your girls, and head to the heart of Central Illinois for the ultimate girls weekend!
Mark your calendars for April 24th and 25th, 2026. The 2nd Annual "Shop the Lake" event is back, and it’s transforming the charming towns of Shelbyville, Sullivan, Windsor, and Assumption into a curated treasure hunt. This isn’t just a "shopping trip"—it’s a high-vibe, slow-living experience that proves the best finds aren’t delivered in a cardboard box; they’re found on a retail trail.
This isn't some corporate-mandated initiative. "Shop the Lake" was born from a dream shared by Regina Hilbert, the creative force behind The Wood Shop in Shelbyville. Regina wanted to highlight the "hidden gems" of the Lake Shelbyville area, and her partnership with the Greater Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce turned that spark into a new regional staple. "I love being a part of the Chamber and being able to share my passion for small business and promoting local with all the players in our area," Regina shares. And talk about perfect timing—since we’re celebrating 250 years of America in 2026, The Wood Shop is doubling down on the nostalgia. It’s the first weekend for their exclusive patriotic merchandise! Between the 20% off spring florals and the "chef’s kiss" gourmet samples from the Finch & Fennel line, Regina’s shop is the literal heart of the trail.
If you think small-town retail means limited selection, prepare to have your mind blown. Many of these shops are way bigger on the inside than they look from the street.
Speaking of, Allie's Gift and Garden, LLC is a total Narnia moment. You step through a modest storefront in Sullivan and suddenly find yourself in a sprawling, six-greenhouse botanical kingdom. Almost every plant is nurtured right on-site, offering a level of quality and "plant mom" expertise you just won't find at a big-box garden center.
For 30 years The Briarwood, this has been the destination for "sawdust-meets-style." Behind the gorgeous lamps and linens lies a massive, fully functioning woodshop. They’ve handcrafted furniture for generations and have refinished an estimated 250 kitchens. It’s large-scale craftsmanship with a small-town soul.
Betsey's Boutique Shop is a must-stop. Sidney has built a loyal following, with some customers traveling up to three hours to visit. Why? Because she solves the ultimate small-town pain point: denim. Locals used to drive hours for a good pair of jeans, but Sidney has made her shop the regional denim headquarters (right alongside those famous Betsey cardigans).
The vibe of "Shop the Lake" is strictly "go where the wind takes you." There’s no set starting point; just grab a map at any participating shop and start your adventure.

Head to Betsey’s Boutique early Saturday for handmade coffees from Jaclyn Frederick - Glenda Sphar Realty while you browse.

Look into summer early at G & T Fun Rentals and Resale Shop. They’re all about the "sandals and fishing poles" lifestyle, offering full-service camper rentals that include everything you need for a weekend experience.
Don’t even think about skipping Assumption, because Grey House Goods is bringing a major spark of art and creativity to the trail! This isn't just a store; it’s a stunningly designed retail space where unique apparel and artisan goods meet a vibrant community vibe. If you want the ultimate "insider" experience, join their VIP group for exclusive sneak peeks—it is a total small-town gem that makes the drive absolutely worth it for your girl trip!
For that classic, high-end shopping experience, Short Furniture - Shelbyvilleis a total must-visit! They are all about that friendly, personalized service that makes you feel like the main character the second you walk through the door. Whether you’re just browsing or looking for a major home upgrade, they focus on making sure your experience is perfect from the showroom floor all the way to delivery day.
As Shop the Lake Weekend - Lake Shelbyville heads into its second year, it is quickly becoming the definitive summer kick-off for the region. This trail reminds us that there is a profound difference between clicking "buy now" on a screen and walking into a shop where the owner greets you by name.
When you head out on the trail this weekend, take a second to soak it all in. What’s more valuable: a package left on a porch by a stranger, or a weekend of discovery with your favorite people in a community that actually knows your style? We think you already know the answer. See you on the trail!
