I am going to share with you some of my tips hard-earned over the last 30 years of working with wood furniture. If you follow these tips you will have a long and happy relationship with your fine furniture. These will be just a few of the most important and more tips will follow in the coming weeks.
First, and most important, do not believe everything you read on the Internet. Don’t put mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise on your furniture. Some advice is just plain goofy.
Dust frequently with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Clean the surface by rubbing in the direction of the grain. This should be done as often as possible (usually at least once a week). Never use a paper towel or other abrasive material.
Periodically rotate accessories on furniture so they do not sit in the same spot all the time.
Use pads, cloth or felt to protect the furniture surface from plastic, rubber, hot dishes, beverages, bookends, flowerpots and vases.
Wipe up spills as quickly as possible. To keep your furniture clean, use a cloth dampened with a few drops of soap and water. Wring the cloth out thoroughly.
