We do not harvest any sod unless we have orders for it. The sod that you purchase is on the pallet for 12 hours or less. This allows us to have no set schedule or hours for our sod farm because we only travel to that farm to fill sod orders when we have them. Although, during the summer months we are at our sod farm in Seneca almost everyday Mon. - Fri. filling orders, mowing grass, irrigating or
spraying. We sale sod to landscapers and homeowners alike. We sale 3 varieties of sod, each has it's merits. Tifway 419 Bermuda - Requires 8 hours of sunlight a day to remain lush with no bare spots. 419 is a grass that will withstand a lot of foot traffic as well as boasting a quick recovery from tears. It is a very fine bladed grass and must be mowed at least twice a week during growing season. If you have a lot of flower beds in your yard you may not want Bermuda sod as it is a very invasive and fast spreading grass. It will require more attention and work to keep Bermuda out of your flower beds than most other grasses. If your yard receives less than 7 hours of sunlight per day there is a good chance that the shady spots will turn to bare ground in a few growing seasons. Once a yard is established, Bermuda is our most drought tolerant grass. El Toro Zoysia - There is no better looking yard than a freshly mowed Zoysia yard. Zoysia grass has become the cadillac of sod. It is a very slow spreading grass so it does not require much in means of edging. However, due to its slow rate of spreading it does not tolerate as much foot traffic as our other grasses and does not recover from tears as quickly as Bermuda or Centipede. Zoysia requires mowing twice a week if a height of 2.5 inches or less is desired, if a height over 3 inches is desired you can get away with mowing only once a week. This is due to the fact that Zoysia seems to have a threshold and once it surpasses 3 inches it's growth time slows. We recommend at least 5 hours of sunlight a day for El Toro but we have heard from customers that have purchased Zoysia from us that it seems to do just fine with as little as 4 hours per day. Common Centipede - Centipede is a very low maintenance grass. Usually if people have problems with their centipede yard it is because they are doing to much to it. Grass spreads one of two ways apart from seed. Rhizomes are like roots, they travel underground and then surface to produce a leaf. Grass that spreads by this means can have leaves coming up well away from the mother plant. Stolons are runners. They travel across the top of the ground and then root down. Centipede only spreads by the means of stolons. This allows the home owner ease when edging which produces very sharp and neat lines on the edge of their Centipede yard. We recommend that Centipede receive a minimum of 5 hours of a sunlight per day. Although not to the extent of Bermuda, Centipede can hold its own in regards to foot traffic and recovers quickly from tears. As with our other grasses we recommend mowing twice a week on centipede to prevent the collection of heavy clippings on the grass which will cause yellow spots and eventually dead spots if not removed. Each of our grasses comes on a four foot by four foot wooden pallet. There is 500 square feet of sod on each pallet. Sod can be picked up at our farm in Seneca or delivered for a charge as long as the order is a minimum of three pallets. We generally like a 1 day notice on sod orders, but if we are already harvesting Sod we can usually cut it for you that day.
