Begonia longiciliata (sizemoreae, .U388) Red

She’s been in bloom all fall and consistently brings joy to my days, so I had to give her a photoshoot. I think we might have successfully self-pollinated this year 🤞

I love this fuzzy, big-leaved, rhizomatous begonia. Native to the forests of Southeast Asia, Begonia longiciliata thrives in warm, humid environments with bright, indirect light. Indoors, she does beautifully at average room temperature and adapts surprisingly well outside of terrariums, a bit tougher than her delicate reputation suggests.

Her care routine follows the classic begonia formula: use well-draining soil and keep it evenly moist but never soggy. She appreciates humidity but forgives the occasional dry spell. Leaves may crisp slightly at the edges, but she’s never dramatic about it.

In my experience, B. longiciliata blooms faithfully each summer and fall, rewarding a little patience with clusters of soft pink flowers and lush, textured foliage that glows under the right light.

Begonia solimutata or Begonia soli-mutata is native to northern Brazil.

Sometimes called the sun-changing begonia, a poetically appropriate name. This compact begonia is wildly adaptable, I've had the opportunity to grow & observe them in a number of different environments.

Thriving(or at least surviving) in situations I wouldn't dream of for a begonia while presenting different morphology and color in each environment; I've grown B.soli mutata in: terrarium culture, conservatory understory, at home on a window seal, and some of my best results were on the wall in my bathroom.

Humidity is appreciated, however, even through the dry winter this begonia seems to hold up nearly as well as my spathiphyllum. Letting the soil dry just slightly seems appreciated too.

I highly recommend this Begonia for folk new to the family, offers all the propagation exploration of other Begoniaceae and way less likely to break your heart and melt in a few days 💜

She flowers half the year too, showey bish. 💅

I like to let my air plants live in the branches of larger plants, mimicking the way they grow in the wild. Doing this also ensures that my never gets missed on watering day and they enjoy a boost of humidity from their companion plants .

When thinking about designing with indoor plants, first take some time to think about the light in the space
💡🌞

Understand the temporality of light.

How does it change throughout the day?
Is there natural light, artificial, or both?
How do they interact and at what levels.
Is the light warm, cool, or mixed?

Begin with these questions, before even pondering plant choice and your greenspaces will be more successful and easier to maintain ✨🌱

Terrariums remind me to look within and remember:

Each of us has something special to bring to the world. There is something unique that only you can give.

It's okay if you do not know what it is yet, just know that you have something beautiful growing inside of you. ✨

Tend that growth with care, give yourself love 💚

Spend time listening to that inner space, it will tell me you what it needs to thrive 🌱

My heart is unreasonably full from these double exposure photos created by Abby Williamson Photography . Through her work she captures the spirit of artists at work like no other.
Abby you are amazing.

Creating an altar and environment for the artists of Belltown Bash was such a moving experience. Thank you so to all the artists, stage hands, production crew, supporters, and a big shout to La Fonda Music for cultivating a safe and creative space for femme artists to grow and share their work. Thank you also to the folks The Crocodile for being so accommodating with your space.

Sidenote:
My little heart grew 3 sizes to have the honor of creating a space for Kelli Schaefer to perform.
💚

Love and power to you beautiful queens. Thank you for sharing the stage with my .
