I learned my craft from my dad, at Sterling College, and at the Vermont Woodworking School. My favorite items to make are large kitchen and conference tables out of slabs of wood. I have also made custom cribs and chests. I focus on using sustainable resources and non toxic materials. Feel free to contact me to talk about the possibility of working together! Tonight is annual art auction. This kumiko panel that I made is for sale! I’m such a fan of Pratt! I hope to see you at Fisher Pavilion tonight celebrating all the goodness that is Pratt!
I couldn’t decide which orientation I liked the asymmetrical asa no ha (h**p leaf), so I photographed it in all directions and the buyer of this piece can decide what they prefer as there is a keyhole slot on each section of the frame.
The frame is clear VG (vertical grain) for. The kumiko is bass wood.

Steering wheel for the ‘67 Austin-Healy! This is a flash back to 9/2024 when I completed it but it never became a post. This piece had some challenges. The circle has three glue seams, each seam is in the middle of each aluminum arm. I made the parts slightly oversize in width and epoxied it to the aluminum and then template routed it to fit perfectly. The finger divots on the backside are every 10 degrees. I used the Origin to cut those.
The wood is myrtle burl. All the car parts came from the same board. It was always a bit nerve racking to work with this wood simply because I could only get so many parts from this board and didn’t want to mess up.
I hope to get some nice pictures once all the parts are installed in the car. It took me a while to cross the finish line with this project (I did put it down for a year). But there was also some serious challenges. Working with spar varnish is no joke and my skills grew exponentially! I learned about color movement with an oil based stain and mineral spirits being in spar varnish. I learned how to repair spar varnish when you sand through a coat. I learned there is a ton of wet sanding with spar varnish and waiting 24 hours between each of the 7 coats and then waiting a week before the finial sand out starting at 220 and going up 2000 grit.
What do you all think?
I did struggle using IG again with posting the photos and how much it cut off the edges of the photos. I need to start leaving more edge space around my projects when photographing.

Fun spoon carving class . I got to spend all of Saturday with 8 new spoon carvers. We had such a good time only a few photos were taken by , who helped with the class in the morning. Most students carved two or three spoons.
I was told that I had very sharp tools, that made all the sharpening prior to class worth it. I love sharing all my quality tools with students so that they can experience a ton of tools and develop their own preferences.
At this point I have 18 hook knives I’ve made in classes at Pratt. A lots of hook knives and straight knives. A bunch of Pfeil bent gouges. Spokeshaves from WoodRiver , Boggs , cigar shave , small shave , & . Pratt has several spokeshaves. So many spokeshaves that half can be set for an aggressive shaving and half set to a fine shaving. Students also got to try out draw knives.
When teaching spoon carving I try to show lots of ways of doing it, so that students get to explore and see what methods and tools work for them.

A little look into the spoon carving tool making class I’m taking at . This class is taught by and it is my third time taking the class. I’ll soon have a bunch more blades to use in my spoon carving classes.

I recently went over to a friend’s and taught him the basics of sharpening. His name is Michael Alm and he makes woodworking YouTube videos. He recorded the day. I started the day out a bit nervous as I’m usually behind the camera and I knew this would be seen by a lot of people. The video is now live. Warning a 6 hr day did turn into a 40 minute video.
You can check out the video here:

Michael’s storytelling ability really shines through the video.

has been an important part of my life for the last 10 years. When I first moved to town, I didn’t own my own tools or have a space to woodwork, so I started off renting their wood studio and being an access users. I quickly started working for them part time checking off people to use the studio. Later I became their Studio Technician and maintained the tools and space. Next I spent 3.5 years as the Wood Studio Manager helping further their mission of making the arts accessible to all. The program grew a lot during those years and tons of great memories were had. I did take a little break but came back to volunteer on the Strategic Planning Committee. I was then ready to get more involved and started instructing wood classes for teens, Family & Me, and adults. And now I’m filling in as Interim Wood Studio Manager while Pratt is hiring for this position. Pratt is such a major part of my artistic community and I love supporting them!
