Another one of our promising young students,Reis, getting jiggy with his nice new chisels. Response to our new format has been gratifying, and .........overwhelming. we scheduled our very popular Beginnings 1 class (to start 1st week in September, and it filled quickly, so we added another and it, too, filled up w/in a few days, so yesterday we added another to start mid-oct and there is currently one spot left.
(be careful what you ask for). and we added another workshop- the Business of Woodworking for late in the fall. please check out the school website, if'n you have the time and the hankering.

Javiera and Richard discussing the finer points of wood selection. Two of our absolute favorite students, ( but to be perfectly honest, each one of our students is our favorite). the atmosphere in classes always seems to be fun and supportive and incredibly upbeat.

Tom appears drunk w the success of his first project. (either that or the instructor is a lousy photographer). tom is an interesting student. he came to us with the idea that although he already has a fair amount of experience and has produced some pretty sophisticated work of his own, he wanted to come study with us and unlearn bad habits and start fresh w good ones. he has been a real pleasure to work with

Students Adam and (Josephine) Josie
getting in to the zen of working with a handplane. one of our students who had gone through a 1 1/2 year woodworking program says they never even picked up a hand plane. ours start in from the very beginning. In this photo students are just in their 4th week! just look at how nicely their pieces are coming out. yes, we here at Ebanista are VERY proud of the people who choose to come work with us and develop really fine skills.

it is difficult to describe why certain small things can bring one so much satisfaction. this pile of gossamer thin mahogany shavings by my bench is, to me, a sign of a couple hours spent in deep and very peaceful concentration shaping the gently arcing legs of a series of tables for a private commission. students often say it is just as informative to come in a few minutes early and catch an instructor working on a "professional" piece.
woodworkers don't get better, they get to moving through a piece more quickly with more experience. with patience and under the careful tutelage of our instructors, your very first piece will be of astonishingly high quality. please note: i did not say it might be, i said it will. we have been teaching this way for over 25 years, and it is exciting to see how students are consistently so excited about what they can do. join us.

our students say that this is one of their proudest moments. heads buzzing with all kinds of new knowledge, and heading home to show their friends and families the fruits of their labors. it really is heady stuff to realize how much talent is inside all of us and watching it rise to the top. i think we at Ebanista are as proud as they are. there is a whole new slate of classes due to start in 5 weeks, and although several of the classes are already waitlisted, get a hold of us anyway and start feeling the magic.
