Another quick teaser. Playing with the natural grain of the wood with the rigid lines to add texture to the doors of this cabinet. This was the prettiest piece of wood I have seen in a while.

So much going on these days, we are moving to Idaho in a few weeks, and I am diligently working to get a few more pieces done before the move. The nice thing, is these all will be coming with us! For now a quick teaser of some through tenons with some maple wedges. So psyched on how these turned out!

Lots going on in the shop these past weeks and little time to post! The desk is getting close, but needed to add a door in the desktop for cable management and storage. Used soss hinges to keep the profile low, and cut in an access port for cables. I also love how nearly centered the knot in the grain in for this feature!

Complicated glue up for sure. Butt joints, mitered joints, and face joints. After all the mock ups, prefinishing the interiors, cutting dominoes I just had to pull the trigger and get this thing together. It took over an hour and used 22 clamps and 105 pounds weights. Making progress and it feels great to see this desk coming together. 📸

I was out of the shop this weekend as Juniper was scheduled to work this weekend. She was not amused that when she showed up, they didn’t even need her to be the camp host. At least we got a little scamping and hiking in!

From panels to boxes, feels good to finally start seeing these two projects take shape. Both inspired the desk and bookcase/cabinet will feature tapered legs and clean lines.

Sometimes building furniture can feel like making fancy plywood. After about a week of using a few hours a day we have 10 panels ready to start making boxes! The good news is this might be the prettiest wood I have worked with, and am excited to see these pieces take shape.

New workshop, old tools. Got two projects going at once, a desk and accompanying bookcase, and doing my best to keep things separated. As with most of my projects, I need to start with making panels. Since my little bench top jointer is not the best tool for long boards I’ve been relying on this number 5 hand plane. It also makes me feel a bit more attached to the making process. For now, it feels good to be settled in a new place and getting back to work.

Glad to get this done before a week out of the shop. Not sure where this will end up, I made this for a silent auction as part of an annual fundraiser for the gala. This beauty could be all yours! The auction starts in two weeks and a link can be found here https://www.mountaineers.org/donate/the-mountaineers-gala
