Snap your fingers to Dror Sinai's presentation,"Rhythms from Around the World," an engaging, educational and entertaining experience providing insight into the diverse cultural traditions of percussion instruments and their origins. Features a wide range of instruments: frame drums of the Middle East, Bendir of Morocco, Riq, Doumbek, and Tabla of Egypt, Djembe of West Africa, and shakers and rattles, Congas, Bongos, and Cajon. Book lovers and mystery fans attended a super-fun luau at Scotts Valley Library Friday May 15. The party was sponsored by the Friends of the Scotts Valley Library. Murder Local Style, Leslie's latest book in the Orchid Isle series is now in bookstores. We even have a couple of copies in the library.

Celebrate the launch of Leslie Karst’s new book, Murder, Local Style, at a festive luau filled with tropical music, island-inspired food, lively trivia, and, of course, Leslie herself sharing stories about the book. Mingle with fellow readers, soak in the aloha spirit, and enjoy an evening where mystery and fun blend in a vibrant Hawaiian-themed celebration.

Film Screening @ SV Library: Verona
Local filmmakers Katelyn and Sierra Laird will be screening Verona, a Romeo and Juliet adaptation that takes place in the 1950s and was filmed entirely in Santa Cruz County. They will give a short talk on filming and acting Shakespeare before the film that will include the basics of iambic pentameter. The film has a PG-13 rating, so teens and adults are equally welcome!

The Friends of the Scotts Valley Library will hold a book sale on Saturday, May 9th, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Scotts Valley Library located at 251 Kings Village Road. Gently used books, dvds, cds, audiobooks, puzzles and games will be sold. Find books on gardening, crafts, cooking, travel, history, nature, humor, and poetry. Fiction and nonfiction in all genres! Loads of children's books. Teachers! Come see our huge selection of children’s books including those for middle schoolers and young adults. Cash, checks, cards, and ApplePay accepted. All proceeds benefit the activities and programs at the Scotts Valley Library.
