This chair was brought to me by Becky, who wanted to learn how to reupholster a chair, and began by tearing it down to the frame. She tied springs, and helped to add the foam and padding back to the frame. She had the vision and created the sketch. And here it finally is. Good work, Becky!!!

I want to thank my dear friend and neighbor for keeping me busy over the years and recommending my work to her friends (truly the best compliment).

Here are a couple photos she sent me of her living room showing her new Ethan Allen swivel chairs (upholstered in the large stripe (Sunbrella; indoor/outdoor fabric). She asked me to reupholster the cushion on her rattan ottoman in a coordinating fabric (in a reversible trellis pattern), and to make some pillows and a runner.

In the second photo, note the two swivel chairs on the left in the small-scale window pane plaid I did a number of years before. They originally had an attached pillow cushion, which we eliminated and upholstered tight-back. It's tough to get a nice tight fit on a curved back, but after a number of years they still look great. (And I'm just saying, compare the curves on the new EA chairs...)

I did these french pleat panels lined in blackout for a beautiful home theater (done by none other than my husband's company Architectural Media Systems, Inc. - thanks for the recommendation, honey). The track is ceiling mounted and went the entire length of the rear wall, drawing right to left as a single panel, and disguising a narrower off-center window. It also provides excellent sound absorption.

The last photo is in the shop - talk about a lot of fabric to work with!

These are window treatments I did last year for a great family, and a beautiful home, but in need of an update from the very formal swags with jabots in jewel tones. I still laugh when I think about the comment from the teenage boys in the family that the blinds look like a rug - ha! I guess they couldn't appreciate the very chic and contemporary look of the textured herringbone for the blinds. The blinds are banded in the same side panel fabric.

The dining room blinds are of a beautiful embroidery, and by now the tulip tail folds will have relaxed a bit.

The fabrics are from Greenhouse:

l/r drapery panels B3388 seafood
l/r blinds A9312 moonstone

I love the dramatic change from traditional to contemporary for this Thomasville sofa I just finished for a client. She chose a Pindler fabric (Bonetti, Fog) with her designer, and the pillow fabrics as well (Fabricut), which match the new side chairs she had made. Let me know what you think or if you have questions!

An old Schoonbeck for Klingman's of Grand Rapids sofa gets a totally modern look. My client fell in love with this fabric when she saw it, and decided she wanted a statement piece. I think it looks great in the lower family room level of their beautiful modern home. (Did I say she is a KCAD grad?)

The other photos show the 2nd gen yellow 70's fabric (shown minus it's bulky skirt, which was not going back on!) The legs went from medium toned wood to lacquered deep blue. Going back in time you'll see the springs were in need of repair, with many broken connections on the right side. The foam in the arms had turned to dust. it was built back up from there.

The cushions were not replaced this go around as they were down filled, and seats cushions were inner spring with cotton padding and down wrap, which equates to a super soft seat. Now that the cushion covers are all zippered, it's a simple solution to have them replaced down the road.

My bestie, who designs on the side, was doing a project for her brother. I made a new bench cushion and chair pillows for their "new" living room. The first photo shows the old cushion, the next shows the new thicker foam insert inside the casing that I manufactured and the fabric, followed by the finished bench and pillows. Kudos, Susie! PS - the home and setting is beautiful, overlooking the Muskegon River in beautiful Michigan.

Here are two of the six dining chairs "after." New drop in seat frames, rewebbed the seats, and new foam/padding. New cane is looking good, and the seats are comfortable for long dinners now. The fabric is Greenhouse Fabrics, A8568 Cognac.

Here are a set of cane backed dining chairs that belonged to my customers grandparents - needless to say, sentimental attachment is high. They're ready for some work to make them comfortable, and to replace the cane, which was broken on some chairs and worn. See the next post for the "after."

Here is the Milo Baughman recliner, reupholstered in Greenhouse Fabrics B1137 Night - great durable fabric, totally in keeping with the midcentury piece. Great from all angles, and especially reclined!
