Millicent Furniture

Millicent Furniture Pulling from inspiration as broad as botany, fabric and urban infrastructure, Millicent is a fusion

Emily Henry was raised in Taos, NM within the convergence of cultural influences stewing among artists, pueblos, land grants and communes -
and she draws upon all of it to inform her interior and furniture design, setting an inspirational tempo. Emily distills her original drawings into precise patterns crafted at her Santa Fe atelier. Each piece is individually created with patience and an old-world respect for the material.

Our signature Pueblo Plum design (seen here) is inspired by the dense thickets of wild plum that grow along the acequias in Taos where I grew up. The design is available in walnut, pine, dark cottonwood and light cottonwood - and each piece is unique.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"Dear New Mexico, I write. Meet me in Espanola at Ranch O’Casados at 5 pm on Saturday. We have to talk. It rides into Espanola on an Appoloosa. It carries a lariat and ropes me in the Big Rock parking lot. “Kiss me, darling,” it drawls. Its spurs reverberate. See what I’m up against?" - Something Like Marriage by ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The history of the Southwest is dying out, and it's important to me to use artistry to preserve it. New Mexico is a gold mine of opportunity, and tapping into that is a special gift.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One of my biggest inspirations is Nicolai Fechin the Artist, a Russian artist who immigrated to New Mexico in 1923. His carving style inspired a WPA-era movement of etched furniture and continues to have a huge impact today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is our hand carved design called "Meeting in Gallup".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

People come to New Mexico to find themselves. To get away from it all. It's a place where you don't have to live by anyone else's rules. I am so grateful for this beautiful place and the impact it has had on my art.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In order to make something of the highest quality, you have to start with the tree. Our products—credenzas, cabinets, tables—are solid wood, and all the building and finishing are done by hand.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So much of what I do is inspired by my Taos roots. My upbringing was intensely creative and free-styling, uninhibited and full of adventure … gathering arrowheads and potsherds and exploring the haunted and mysterious back roads of Taos. On the one hand, there was almost unlimited freedom to explore and create. On the other, there was a heavy responsibility to fend for one’s self. All of it contributed in its own way to how I create, and how I run my business.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
