Keep or Trash?

One of the hardest parts of helping families through downsizing, estate transitions, and cleanouts isn't moving furniture.

It's making decisions.

Yesterday, we were working in Governor's Club and spent time sorting through an attic full of items collected over a lifetime.

Some things were easy.

Some things weren't.

Books, artwork, collectibles, family keepsakes, golf clubs, and memories attached to almost everything.

When families are overwhelmed, sometimes the biggest value we provide isn't the labor—it's helping create momentum and making the process feel manageable again.

This is just a small glimpse into one of the projects we're currently working on.

This week we were at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill helping two sisters settle their mother's estate.

One lives in New York.
The other lives in California.

During our conversations, one of the sisters shared that while she was in North Carolina working through her mother's belongings, she had also just sold her home in New York and was simultaneously planning her move to Los Angeles.

Think about that for a moment.

She's trying to manage grief, make difficult decisions about her mother's possessions, coordinate with family, sell one home, and prepare for a move across the country—all at the same time.

This is why so many families feel overwhelmed.

It's usually not just one thing.

It's everything happening at once.

Our goal isn't simply to move furniture or empty rooms.

It's to help simplify the process, reduce the burden, and create momentum when families aren't sure where to start.
