Ebonizing White Oak
This is a really cool science experiment for the wood shop. This process will yield incredible results for turning your white oak to a deep black.

Supplies:

Perfect 11’ Long Mitered Waterfall Edge!!!

This is the 11’ long floating White Oak desk that I’m making for a client. It’s not installed yet because we’re waiting on the welder to build and install the metal frame work. Then I’ll scribe it into the walls that it sits between. Stay tuned for finished photos soon!!

“New Beginnings” aka The Va**na Table

This has quite an interesting story. My client is a 63 yo woman who has been a strong feminist and teacher here in the Bay Area. We initially were going to orient the slabs differently but because we didn’t have sequential slabs (there was one missing between the two), the lines weren’t quite lining up. So I swapped the slabs around and realized the very obvious image this created. I sent it to her anyways to see which one she would prefer. She immediately called me and said she “loved how feminine it looked” haha we both chuckled but she was 100% serious.

Everything on this table is book matched. Obviously the slabs, but I mean everything. The apron is made from cut offs of each side of the table and folded under, mitered like a picture frame so that there’s a book match on all 4 sides. The legs are all cut from the same piece, book matched along the end grain, then cut to book match the long grain of each piece. Even the walnut wedges are all book matched across the width of the table. There was a lot of thought that had to go into this table. By far the best piece I think I’ve made yet!

It’s called “New Beginnings” because it is my client’s retirement gift to herself, so she’ll be starting the next step in her life. This was my first high end furniture art piece, which is what I want to continue doing! And also for the obvious reason, that all new life (human life anyways) begins with what this table looks like haha

Would YOU want this built-in armoire in your bedroom?

Finally finished this 10’ tall by 8’ wide built-in armoire for my client. I designed, built and installed the entire project. I did have my cabinet carcass parts cut by my friends over at on their massive CNC.

The interior WAS pre-finished maple crossbanded ply. The painters (not mine) painted them inside and out. You’re probably thinking, how could they not have noticed that the interior was already finished, BEING PROFESSIONAL PAINTERS?!?! Well, you’re not the only one thinking that. But they still look beautiful.

There was HVAC coming through the middle of the floor where the old wall was. Soo I designed a little nook to house the vent while maximizing storage.

Wood selection is where the build truly starts!

You must take the time to pick the right color lumber, the right grain patterns and the most importantly, the right amount PLUS extra for when you inevitably screw something up or one of the boards becomes unusable for some reason.
