Sean Millis Functional Art

Sean Millis Functional Art Building custom furniture and more from wood and steel. Coffee tables, Dining tables, Side tables, S I've always loved making things.

I was that kid building forts atop the highest tree in the neighborhood. Using the world around me to create things that made me happy. Pursuing a life of creativity, I graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Sculpture. And, despite a lengthy detour into design and technology, the Artist in me is alive again. I've begun creating functional art that makes me feel in touch with the world around me

again. I want to create objects that people love and want to keep forever. Hopefully passing them on to new generations with love.

People often ask me what I make. It’s hard to answer sometimes because I make all kinds of things. This, for example, is a wall mounted walnut shelf/hide the electronics thingamjig. Top lifts up to the left for servicing. Sonos wires drop down through a hole in the top. Made for an existing client in SF. For the record, I hate this wall. I’ve hung some custom walnut and steel bar shelves above this unit. I’d like to find the contractor who built this wall and give him a stern talking to.

This is an educational post. For me, that is. Reaching out to all you metal heads outs there. Does anyone have experience putting mortise lock sets into steel frames? This is my third time and while the outer lock set holes are pretty easy to drill, cutting out the rectangle for the lock set is challenging to say the least. I’m looking for tools and methods to improve my craft. Currently using a drill and dermal toolset to get the job done. Messy and burry.
