1) If your landscaping allows it, turn off all the water running into the house.
2) Turn off the water to all the toilets and any other areas that could cause flooding, such as refrigerators and water lines.

Avoid a plumbing disaster this Thanksgiving!
For our third and final tip this Thanksgiving series, let's talk about your water heater!
Many of our testing jobs arise as a result of a water heater failure.
To ensure that your water heater is not overwhelmed during the holiday season due to more guests in your home, consider turning the heater up to raise its capacity. NEVER turn the water heater above 120 degrees, as this can be dangerous. Turn your water heater back down after the holidays are over to avoid wasting energy.

Avoid plumbing issues this Thanksgiving! Here is tip #2 in our Thanksgiving series:
MIND THE TOILET
With so many guests in and out of your house this time of year, your toilet can easily become clogged. This problem is usually preventable by following some common sense steps.
Have a plunger on hand.
Keep a wastebasket in the bathroom and remind your guests of items that should not be flushed- such as baby wipes, feminine products, diapers, paper towels, etc.

Avoid a plumbing disaster this Thanksgiving! Here is our first tip in our Thanksgiving series:
TAKE CARE OF YOUR GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Don’t stuff too much down the disposal at once, do a little at a time.
Avoid putting certain items in the garbage disposal such as grease, corn husks, bones, potato skins, egg shells and of course-metal.
Communicate with your kitchen helpers what should and shouldn’t go down your garbage disposal.
Following these steps are ones you can take so you don’t find yourself standing in a flooded kitchen!
