I LOVE furniture that makes a statement rather than just sitting in a corner minding its own business. This piece is one of those, loud.
Crafted out of Walnut and Ebonized the old school way with Iron Acetate. In the 1600s or so, some smart cookie realised you can ebonize tannin rich woods with a really simple solution of iron (old nails) and vinegar (probably cider). The Iron Acetate reacts with the tannins forming dark complexes in the fibres of the wood, leaving a dark almost black tint to the wood.
I loved every step of this build, from the chemistry, oiling to reveal that beautiful Ebony and taking there photos! . Made by hand in California, DM to get yours today!!
