Point Five Mid Century and Modern Furnishings

Point Five Mid Century and Modern Furnishings Point Five is a Mid-Century and Modern furnishings store located in San Antonio, Texas after a successful 20 year stint in Houston, Texas.

Owner Joseph Gregg and Point Five have been featured in publications ranging from The Houston Press to Architectural Digest. Our store features the modern classic designs of the best American manufacturers and designers from the late 1920’s to items still in production today, such as Florence Knoll, George Nelson, T.H. Robs-John Gibbings, Charles Eames, Paul Frankl, Gilbert Rhode and the European

styles of Breuer, Panton, Wegner, Aalto, Columbo and many more. We are purists, but not elitist; as you may also find unknown or unattributed designs ranging from lamps to decorative items. So please stop in and peruse our wide selection and one of the best design libraries available.

Point Five is now closed! Building sold and signage to be removed shortly. Now traveling, announcement of possible reopening in 3 or 4 months. Again thanks to the many kind and patient customers who visited.

Leaving! Yes there is finally a schedule. I should be open the next two weeks at this location, maybe a few days after that. Then everything goes to storage or auction. I will not reopen in San Antonio this year. After that, we will see what happens. So, if you want a last look or there is something you have been thinking about, now is the time. And thank you to the many people who have been so kind and helpful.

Hello friends and neighbors, there has been a lot going on. More on that later. The important thing for now is we will only be open on Saturdays for the month of April. Stories, pictures and foolishness to be recounted as it develops... Stay tuned!

There are so many beautiful things. many here and gone, many still at this location. Personally, finding something most have not seen, but nearly all find interesting and desirable is very rewarding. This soup tureen is a good example.

Designed by William Ng for Environmental Ceramics in 1968 and quickly added to the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, it is amorphic in a way most find entertaining and even humorous. There are many equally surprising and fun smalls to find here.

And big stuff. All the dining tables are in the warehouse, but photos of some also follow. Pictured are tables by George Nelson, Florence Knoll, Afria and Tobia Scarpa, Paul Frankl, for the companies Herman Miller, Knoll International, Gavina and Johnson Furniture. Of course many others and different things are hiding there also.

The move gets closer and with it a change in how things are done. I wish to divest of nearly all smalls and will be happy to just recoup acquisition cost in most cases. Certainly, most big things will be leaving too. Some will go to auctions out of state and some to dealers. We both will be happiest for things that stay here and enlighten your life as they have mine. So, come get some... and Let's Rodeo!

For now, hours are the same; noon to six, Thursday Friday and Saturday. Any other time is fine, just call ahead first 210 324-1645.

Back on the market! Thought there was a deal on the building, but it fell through. So, the building is again for sale; only now the window is smaller. The neighbors across the street want me out of the storage area asap as they wish to start renovations. And I am ready to move on... My loss, your gain, come get it before more goes to auction.

These are current photos of the facility (used for new listing) plus ten times as much other stuff in storage (some storage items pictured.) The names and manufacturers are the best. George Nelson and Charles Eames and Verner Panton for Herman Miller, Florence Knoll, Saarinen and others for Knoll International, Robsjohn Gibbings and others for Widdicomb and Paul Frankl work in cork for Johnson Furniture. And of course Rhode, Wormley for Dunbar, Mario Bellini, Joe Columbo, Aalto, the Scarpa family and too many more to mention.

We are open this week with regular hours, and any other time, just call ahead. So come get a great deal. look forward to seeing you and Merry Christmas!

Giving is always an adventure; easy to miss, but rewarding if pleasant receipt. Best of all if it lasts... even better if it becomes the accoutrement of daily life.

Man or woman there are certain things that will be essential. A relaxing chair, a work chair (mutually exclusive),a table/desk and good lighting will fulfill the requirements of daily tasks.

And then there is the personal space. None more so than the dresser, that repository of much we hold dear and most personal. Consider these two, Paul McCobb and Edward Wormley. Both have vanity mirrors, shelving, drawers and other useful surprises.

There are many surprises at Point Five, large and small. Gifts from here and of this type are and will remain unique. Mid Century Modernism has been around for awhile now. The clean designs are timeless and will be appropriate into the future.

So consider giving something different and I will certainly give you a great deal. Lots of works by Knoll, Eames, George Nelson, Robsjohn Gibbings and others, from the well known to the obscure.

Congratulations (if you are reading this) you have survived another Black Friday! The toys for the kids, the new TV, the sexy lingerie will not be found here. BUT, you will find the storage piece for toys, the well organized stand for the TV, and the dresser for those new clothes.

The toys, TV, and garments will hopefully be used and enjoyed... and soon enough they will need to be replaced. The items found here to contain and support them will last a lot longer. AND these items will not only last longer, they can also support new applications as life changes.

Also, as the move preparation continues, those items best suited to new homes will be offered at deals as attractive as anything at the Mall. For example, these two sets of eight each glasses. One set celebrates summer and cool drinks, the other gold embossed Motorola executive commemorative highballs.

This table shall continue to be filled with those items rather sold than packed and moved. Somethings collectible, some design classics and all things useful. For now, fondue sets, bar ware, Deco clocks, mixing bowls, pub sets and more, So escape the jostling crowds and stop by here for some pleasant surprises!

Beautiful, fuctional, classic... This Omega series table desk was created by Hans Eichenberger for the German design firm of Haussmann and Haussmann in 1957. Produced in Switzerland, it was distributed in the USA by Stendig.

Not one, but two! The following pictures show the large desk (66X32X29) and the smaller side table (36X18X26.5). The tables were quickly added to the permanent collection of the MOMA. Eichenberger's designs are represented in various collections. Among others, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and the Museum of Design Zurich.

Eichenberger is also a member of the Swiss Werkbund and recipient of the 2016 Swiss Grand Prix Style: appreciation of the Swiss Confederation for Eichenberger pioneering role in Swiss history of furniture design and interior architecture of the 20th century

The large table is well known. The small table is one of the rarest items, this being the only one I have ever seen. My thanks to Johnny Dunn for the outstanding refinish to match both pieces. I found them separately.

Together they are an impressive pair with a multitude of applications. The large table works as a desk, pier table or even dining. The refinish will last as a glass top is provided to protect the beauty of the wood. The smaller table is on wheels therefore having even more possibilities for use.

It would be nice if they could stay together. Find a use for both and you could find a special deal here!

It is a pleasant thing, when someone shares the recognition of potential in depressed circumstance (the chairs are great, but hammered). Will the end product be worthy of the effort extended?

Sometimes yes. These two chairs (SS133) by Anton Lorenz for Thonet (Germany, 1931) are reborn. It gives great pleasure to see these worthy items of classic design, saved. Due thanks to wise customer, faithful upholsterer, fabric purveyor and chrome polisher.

Movers start tomorrow! This weekend we begin the breakdown of the smaller storage space. This is a big chore so help me out by making some of what is mine... yours!

Half price is my new motto before an item is moved. Once it committed to the auction houses it can not be sold by me and that also begins soon. As examples, the George Nelson Herman Miller king size bed and the T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings (first two items shown) server are now both under $1000.

Also shown are the Edward Wormley leather top birch nesting tables, Gibbings desk, and Renzo Rituli for entry or sideboard.

There are also Verner Panton cone chairs, Mies van der Rohe for Knoll club chairs, Cork dining table and server with hutch by Paul Frankl for Johnson furniture. Sets of six Brno chairs, Warren MacArthur for Mayfair casual armchairs... and many other items featured in the pictures section of this page.

So come on by and... buy! Regular hours Thursday Friday and Saturday from noon to six or call 324-1645 for any other times, I should be available.

It's official! My building is for sale. Nearly everyone who has visited has commented on how unique and charming it is. I agree. As to where I will go... more on that as the situation develops. If you know someone who might be interested, call and I will give the details.
Also shown are the pair of very rare Mies van der Rohe black leather club chairs designed for Knoll. When it comes to mid century and modern nothing is more rare or desirable than these.
And, my refinisher just completed restoring the Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller Paldao side table. I have also seen it used as a bed side piece. Lots of potential applications for this great piece of pre-war modernism.
Everything not sold before my move will probably go into storage as I have not determined my next location. So, come by, make a great deal and save me the trouble of moving more stuff!
