Details matter. Does everyone that ā€œflipsā€ furniture do it? No. *I don’t consider myself a ā€œflipperā€* But if you’re going to spend your hard earned money with my business I want your piece to look as good, or better, than it came off the factory floor.

Side note- this is not a superiority post. I am not saying if someone didn’t do this that their makeover is inferior, just that it matters to me.

To those that thought my last clip of paint coming off with a light scratch after a week of sitting was because I didn’t let it cure (yes, I know what cure time is) and I just needed to wait, this is after an HOUR. One šŸ‘šŸ½ hour šŸ‘šŸ½ This friends is what good adhesion looks like. If I’m putting my name on something I will have no doubts about the finish and if it’ll hold up.

If you have anything you love to do and have been doing it any amount of time, you’ll have instances where things go wrong. And because I like to be real, this is one of those times. I refuse to put my business name on anything I question, so…Here we go for round THREE, on this dresser. Wish me luck šŸ€ If this time doesn’t work, come join me for s’mores šŸ¤£šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ«£

Rant incoming…
A week ago I repaired and sanded and primed and painted this dresser. Next day I scratched it and the paint came off so easily. So, after walking away and taking a breather, I stripped it, sanded again, and primed again with BIN shellac based primer (it’s good stuff). I let it dry, sanded lightly, did a second coat and waited overnight then sanded lightly and painted a coat of paint. It’s been almost a WEEK and this is what is happening. The first time I thought it was me. I thought I sanded the primer too smooth. So, this time I used a brand new 80 grit sanding block so I know the sanding wasn't overdone on the primer to prevent adhesion. IM FURIOUS and the paint is going in the GARBAGE.

Without further ado, I present this 100+ year old solid oak lowboy that is ready for a new home.

Completely cleaned/stripped/sanded and lots of repairs made (like the cracked top). New drawer bottoms; new drawer liners, new hardware *perfectly aged* and keyhole covers; new caster wheels bc they were missing; paint washed and sanded again; clear coat x3.

Dinensions:
43ā€ wide
20 1/2ā€ deep
34.25ā€ tall

So, a week-ish ago I posted an antique oak serpentine piece asking about hardware. It was suggested I clean her up and sell as is, but before I could do that I had to replace the drawer bottoms (warped and icky, making the drawers near impossible to slide).

Well one thing led to another and here we are, she is stripped and sanded šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø and ready for a paint wash. I could’ve, maybe should’ve, just sold her as she was, but as one of my favorite furniture refinishers {Build it like Becker} says, if we aren’t doing the most, then what are we doing?!?

Stay tuned!!!

Starting this oak beauty tomorrow. If you’re interested, let me know!
She bigger than she appears:
43ā€ wide
20 1/2ā€ deep
33ā€ tall (and that is without the casters that it had originally)

How should she get refreshed? What should I do about hardware?

When I first picked this table up, I thought ā€œOmg there’s no way I can fix this.ā€ But Kristina and Becky believed I could. FB told me to tell my customer she and her table were, um…f’d. That was enough to kick in the stubborn. Every literal square inch of this table was cleaned, sanded, glued, and given attention.

While it is a million miles from perfect, and boy oh boy am I happy it’s going home today, after 30+ hours of work, a family heirloom will live on and I am actually shocked every time I look at it that it’s even the same piece.

*before included of the broken and oil soaked piece I picked up*
