Broad statement made. " You will be able to take a tax deduction for the interest on vehicle loans". Actually there are some restrictions. It must be a brand new vehicle no used vehicle, The final manufacturing must be done in the United States, The vehicle must be purely for personal use no business use, There is a limit of $10,000 on the deduction, and that will be reduced if your income is over $100,000 as a single person or $200,000 as a married individual.

I get it. They want you to buy new vehicles all made in the United States. But with the price of new vehicles I doubt that I will be qualifying for the deduction.

For 2025, the standard deduction is $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married couples filing jointly. It will be indexed for inflation thereafter.
The Child Tax Credit is increased to $2,200 with a maximum of $1,400 as refundable credit. These amounts will be indexed for inflation after 2025.
NO TAX ON TIPS...or at least on the first $25,000 of reported tips which is given as a deduction. The deduction shall be reduced (but not below zero) by $100 for each $1,000 by which the taxpayer's modified adjusted gross income exceeds $150,000 ($300,000 in the case of a joint return).

I have been trying to wrap my mind around this One Big Beautiful Bill officially called HR 1 (OBBB). I will be posting about it as I absorb it, probably for the next few months.

Remember the campaign slogan "no tax on Social Security benefits". Well, didn't quite make it. The new tax package provides a $6000 additional deduction for seniors 65 or older that reduces the amount of income subject to income taxes. This deduction will be in place from 2025 through 2028. Additionally, the deduction is phased out For individuals earning more than $75,000 and married couples earning more than $150,000.

Just downloaded The big beautiful tax bill, 1000 + Pages. As soon as I start absorbing some of the changes in tax law I will be posting them on my business Facebook account. Stay tuned.

DID YOU KNOW...Biden's American Families Plan is not all about families. Biden’s plan wants to give an extraordinary amount of new power to the IRS. A new provision would require banks and financial institutions to start telling the tax agency what people have in their bank account, when money is moved around, and the like. This proposal leverages the information that financial institutions already know about account holders, simply requiring that they add to their regular, annual reports information about aggregate account outflows and inflows.

TAX FREE UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION...The IRS will provide taxpayers with additional guidance on those provisions that could affect their 2020 tax return, including the retroactive provision that makes the first $10,200 of 2020 unemployment benefits nontaxable. For those who haven't filed yet, the IRS will provide a worksheet for paper filers and work with software industry to update current tax software so that taxpayers can determine how to report their unemployment income on their 2020 tax return. For those who received unemployment benefits last year and have already filed their 2020 tax return, the IRS emphasizes they should not file an amended return at this time, until the IRS issues additional guidance.

DID YOU KNOW...The Internal Revenue Service is pushing back the tax-filing deadline until May 17 after heavy pressure from Congress and tax and accounting groups.
The move will give taxpayers and tax professionals an extra month after the original deadline of April 15. May 15 falls on a Saturday, so the date was moved up until Monday, May 17. Last year, the IRS delayed the deadline by three months until July 15, but that threw off some of the other quarterly deadlines for many taxpayers and tax pros

DID YOU KNOW...Individuals making $75,000 or less a year and their dependents each would receive checks of $1,400 each. The payments decrease gradually for individuals earning above $75,000 — and they phase out completely for individuals making $80,000 or more. That’s a change from a prior income cap of $100,000.
Couples who file taxes jointly and earn $150,000 or less a year and their dependents each will get full payments of $1,400. The checks become gradually smaller for joint filers making above $150,000, and they phase out entirely at $160,000. That’s a change from a prior income cap of $200,000 for couples.
“Head of household” filers, such as single parents, would see a phase-out starting above an income level of $112,500 and no payments at $120,000 vs. a previous cap of $150,000

DID YOU KNOW....Under the American Rescue Plan Act just signed by Biden up to $10,200 (or $20,400 in the case of a joint return where each spouse receives unemployment compensation) of unemployment compensation received in 2020 may be excludible from income. This exclusion applies only to the extent your adjusted gross income is less than $150,000. If you have already filed your 2020 return you will have to file an amended return to claim the exclusion.
