Chinoiserie (pronounced: Shin-wah-zur-eee)style has been around forever it seems. The ancient Chinese always traveled and traded. When they traded, they offered silks in colors that the rest of the world had never seen before. European Royalty were enamored instantly by this. Reason being is they were not able to get their dyes (colors) to stick and stay on their much lesser quality wools and blends. Pretty much only the royalty and extreme nobility could afford to dress in bright or bold colors. Thank goodness this has changed! It would be one drab and dull colored world out there.
