If you want a more hands on, daily connection to your plants, try a daily, light misting. Here’s some tips to get the most out of misting:
- Use distilled or RO water to prevent the buildup of water spots and minerals on the leaves.
- Set the spray bottle to the finest mist it will make, and spray a light, even layer across the leaf surfaces.
- Don’t overly saturate the leaves. The goal should be ‘morning dew’ not ‘torrential rain’.
- Avoid misting when a plant is receiving direct sunlight. The small beads of water can act like a magnifying glass and burn little spots into the leaves.
- Many succulents close their pores during the daytime, so it may be more effective to mist after dark, or before sunrise.
- Don’t mist African Violets, Grape or Oakleaf Ivy, and use caution with other fuzzy leaf plants that are prone to leaf rot.
- Many tropical or wet-climate species may benefit from multiple light mistings per day.
- On occasion add 1/2 or 1/4 dose of fertilizer to the misting water for foliar feeding. (I would recommend .5ml Happy Happy Houseplant Plant Food fill up@the bottle with water and then add 1-3 drops Happy Happy Houseplant Hydration Renew as a perfect way to foliar feed)
Buy any spray or misting bottle from the shop and get your first fill of distilled water for free.
