PERSPECTIVES FROM THE PORCH

Do you feel stuck or that you're meant for more, but can't quite break out of the rut you're in? Or want to make a significant change, but can't quite bring yourself to take the necessary steps to accomplish even a fraction of the change you desire?

If this is you, than most likely YOU are the one standing in the way of your own potential.

I think the first thing we all do is place the blame outside of ourselves. Things like;

childhood challenges or traumas socio-economic status
education or lack of
bad relationships
a bad boss

are just some of the reasons we choose to believe that keep us from moving forward.

But let's look at it from another perspective.
Let's look at it from the lense of, these things were placed in your life to give you lessons that shape you into the person you are today. The strongest iron is forged in fire. Without the fire the sword would not be strong enough to protect and the axe to cut the trees to build a home.

We can either focus on the pain caused, or the strength we've gained.

Moving forward is done one step at a time. The first of those is choosing a more positive point of view to start building a foundation of authentic and lasting change.

From my porch to yours, have a beautiful day!

PERSPECTIVES FROM THE PORCH

Over this past week I've done a lot of reflecting which in turn brought up some uncomfortable emotions. This wasn't an easy space to be in. One that I have often avoided over the years.

Fear of rejection is a feeling we all deal with to one degree or another. Much of which could be traced back to childhood, particularly middle school. Everyone I talked to has stories of being picked on, left out, and just wanting to fit in. I have watched my own children go through this.

This is when we are taught not to stand out too much. To go along with the crowd. If you don't follow along, your life becomes miserable.

In reality, we were never created to be like everyone else. We were uniquely and wonderfully made to stand out, be different, and have different purposes.

Fear (False Evidence Appearing Real) holds us back from our true potential. We all have it somewhere in our life, but how do we move past it? The only way is through.

Feel the emotions

Embrace the uncomfortable

Acknowledge the trauma

Release the need to hold onto old beliefs about self and others.

This is how we move through social fears. I'm more than 40 years post that trauma and still walking through it. Stronger now than I ever have been.

Release the fear, ebody the strength.

From my porch to yours, have a beautiful day!

PERSPECTIVES FROM THE PORCH

What a beautiful morning to be on the porch again! Seeing the new plant growth has gotten me in the mood to be in my gardens. It wasn't until my 30's that I took an interest in gardening and only recently decided to learn more about vegetable gardening.

With the price of food going up, and not wanting all the added chemicals in and on my food, this has become not just an interest, but almost a necessity. But without much experience, it has been a challenge.

There was a quote I heard recently. If I knew who it originated from, I would happily give them credit, because as I'm learning, it fits into most people's modern lifestyles.

~Conveniences gained are skills lost.

I grew up with a garden in our back yard, but never felt the need to learn how to care for one. By the time I moved out, it was all about work, social life, and the convenience of grocery stores and restaurants.

Now I recognize that putting blind faith in others to take care of my essentials is not wise.
I am solely responsible for me and my children. And having the skills to do so such as growing food is paramount.

What skills have you lost or never developed because of the conveniences you've been afforded? Having this ease in life is not wrong. But having the skillset to care for oneself is important for the quality of life you you want to live.

From my porch to yours, I'll see you in the garden!

Arguing with those around you because of differing points of view or beliefs will not change someone's mind. Living your life authenticly is how you show others what they're missing. It's up to the individual to embrace change.

PERSPECTIVES FROM THE PORCH

This morning I feel called to check in and ask, how have you been feeling lately? Are you stressed and feeling frazzled? Or are you at peace and feeling supported?

It seems as though people have been in one of those two camps lately with not many in-between. Which brings up the questions:

* For what purpose do we live this life?
* What am I doing to fulfill that purpose?

These are big questions. Questions like these feel weighty and are often avoided with distractions such as work, kids schedules, entertainment, etc. However, if we believe in the divine and that we are a spark of that divine, then I find it hard to believe that our existence here is merely to eat, sleep, work and repeat. Yet we rarely give much attention to anything else.

If you have had a feeling there is more to life than what society has to offer, I believe that's because God has created you for more. More love. More peace. More creativity. More expansion. Not the rut that society creates for us.

This doesn't mean we have to overhaul our entire life. But taking 15 minutes before you start your day to be intentional about your thoughts and desires is enough to reshape the trajectory of your entire life. The quote, "where your attention goes, your energy flows," is absolutely true!

Start your day intentionally and watch what changes take place in your life.

From my porch to yours, intentionally have a beautiful day!
