Forest Innovations Our goal is to transform 25 million dead trees into educational opportunities in the region, and quality products for people.

California's historic drought has taken its toll on millions of trees in the Sierra Mountain Range. The recent rainfall cannot save the estimated 100+ million pine, fir and other soft-wood trees, weakened by the prolonged lack of water, that have succumbed to the native bark beetle that has infested them. With the knowledge that more trees will die in the upcoming years, what more can be done with

all this valuable timber? Our goal is to transform 25 million trees into educational opportunities in the region, and quality products for people and programs, worldwide. Our partners are schools (public and private, traditional and charters), world-class artists, and wood-working artisans. Forest Innovations is the newest initiative under the newly-formed California nonprofit corporation Community Services 2050 (California corporation C3967892). The Community Services 2050 mission is simple... to ensure that California remains a vibrant, sustainable state for the next generation. We have collected and mapped data that indicates that a growing portion of California is functionally and structurally unsound, and in decline. These regions large and spreading, cannot contribute to that statewide vision. A healthy California cannot existing with so much of it (geographically) in decline, and without viable solutions on the horizon.

Just in time, the first delivery of lumber milled from beetle-killed pines has arrived to add some life to the UC Davis Our U2House entry to the 2017 Solar Decathlon competition. A great use of "hospice tree" materials.

Cash prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third place in each category, to the entrant.

1st Place - $250
2nd Place - $100
3rd Place - $ 50

A single “Best of Show” prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the submission deemed to best depict the collective crisis, within the objectives of the exhibit stated above.

The purpose of the photography exhibit is to increase -- and spread --awareness of both urban and rural trees challenges through story-telling images that capture current tree die-off, the impacts to ecosystems, and the consequences for property owners and entire communities.

Forest Innovations and Matthew C. Boyer and Associates donated $4,283.87 of reclaimed cedar and pine wood products to the UC Davis Solar Decathlon 2017 for all exposed wooden surfaces, interior furniture, and front-yard amenities.

Any art lovers out there? Forest Innovations will be at August 2017 First Friday in Sacramento's Sparrow Gallery!

Forest Innovations will collaborate with artists to produce canvases and frames. Forest Innovations is also hosting a 2018 photography exhibit capturing elements of the ongoing tree mortality crisis.
