Pattern matching is one of those details you may not immediately notice…

But once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

With a fabric this bold, every cut matters. Before the first piece is attached, we have to study the pattern, determine where the important motifs should land and plan how the design will continue across the cushion, frame, arms and corners.

Take a closer look at how the pattern flows from one section of this piece to the next. Even the corners were carefully planned so separate pieces of fabric come together to create something that feels like one continuous work of art.

That kind of alignment doesn’t happen by accident. It takes experience, patience and an understanding of both the furniture and the fabric.

Upholstery is about so much more than knowing how to use a staple gun.

It’s knowing how to take a designer’s vision, a beautiful piece of fabric and a complicated frame…and make every detail feel intentional.

And some become something more…a story, an artistic collaboration, and a tribute.

Dean has been part of Sassy Tacks since the very beginning. For years, we’ve worked together on projects for his clients, so when he came to me with something personal, I was truly honored.

These chairs belonged to his mom.

They already held a history of their own. Our job wasn’t simply to make them new again, but to honor where they came from while creating something that felt completely personal to Dean.

We took them back to the frame, gave the wood a custom finish, and began reimagining every detail.

Dean was inspired by an original art piece featuring a female face in vivid blues and golds. Once we saw it on the first chair, we knew the second needed its own identity. I reached back out to the artist to create a coordinating male portrait…connected to the first, but distinctly its own.

From there, the project became part design, part upholstery, part art.

Even the side panels became an opportunity to create something unexpected. The couture-inspired pleating was designed specifically for these chairs, adding dimension, movement and another layer of individuality.

Every choice was intentional…the portraits, the finish, the velvet, the trim, the pleating, and the way the two chairs belong together without ever being exactly the same.

In the end, they became much more than two reupholstered chairs.

They became individual works of art…preserving something that belonged to Dean’s mom while allowing her chairs to begin an entirely new chapter with him.

It was an absolute privilege to be trusted with something this personal.

A story. An artistic collaboration. A tribute.
