As many of you may have heard by now, a white supremacist group is planning an event at a confederate monument tomorrow morning, and a larger counter protest is planned as well. We feel that it is important that we emphatically state that statues honoring a historic and ongoing legacy of white supremacy and racial oppression be removed, and fully support anyone planning to attend the counter protest planned in the morning.

We also think it's important to state that neither the white supremacist rally or counter protest have permits to do so, and Richmond City has made it very clear they foresee a large number of arrests.

They have also made clear that bats, shields and helmets will NOT be permitted around the Monument Ave statues, however guns will… seriously.

In the comments we will have more information and links to other events in response to the white supremacist rally.

We stand against systemic oppression, imperialism, state violence, racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and ableism, and all monuments that celebrate these things.
There will be an uptick in police and overt white supremacists THROUGHOUT the city tomorrow. Look out for each other and specifically look out for marginalized people, listen to their needs and requests tomorrow and everyday.
See you at the show and in the streets.

Just a heads up: This is completely on our radar and we plan to adjust scheduling for the fest appropriately. We want everyone who wishes to attend in counter-protest to be able to do so. We will announce any schedule changes as soon as they are solidified. Please note the link at the end of this article to info about a counter-protest scheduled to begin early that morning.

*We will also have extra security at Strange Matter to make sure none of these knuckleheads infiltrate*

Just a reminder that this year, the Sunday bridge show is a full benefit for CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure Shelter), and we will have donation jars along with information to take with you accessible for the entirety of the fest. We will also have a drink special at Strange Matter throughout the weekend, which a portion of the proceeds from will be donated. If you wish, items such as blankets, pillows, towels, etc. may also be donated.
Find the full list of acceptable items to donate here:

If you wish to see how your donations make a difference, take a peek at this video of stories from people that CARITAS has assisted:

This year we decided to change the theme of Richmond's Punx Picnic to Fight Back Fest. With everything happening in our world today, and even recently in our home state, it seems that now more than ever is this title appropriate. We have received a lot of feedback during the process of choosing a cause to raise funds for this year, and we thank you all for your input. We would like to announce that this year we will be donating to CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond To Assure Shelter) - an incredible organization that provides rehabiliation and shelter for the Metro Richmond area's homeless population. CARITAS works to break cycles of homelessness and addiction for struggling individuals and families. Their purpose is to provide permanent housing and career solutions for those in need.

You can learn more about the programs CARITAS offers here:

We want to thank all of the amazing bands involved this year and for everyone at Strange Matter for making this possible! Thank you all for your generous support! Hi everyone! With the fest quickly approaching, we have a few lineup changes to announce.

Unfortunately, No Stayer, Memory Loss and Disintegration have dropped from this year's lineup. Baltimore's Anti-Androgen will be playing Saturday instead of Sunday, and Unwanted will be playing Sunday's evening show instead of Sunday's early bridge show.

As of now, these are the only changes to the lineup. We will keep everyone posted with any further changes, and appreciate your patience. See you soon!

Updated flier. Fliers for the individual shows coming soon.

The complete line-up for Richmond Punx Picnic Vol.5 is finally here! Come get annihilated at Strange Matter this September with all our local favorites and headliners like CHEETA CHROME'S DEAD BOYS, NIGHTFALL, DEATH S*X ADVOCATES, NURSE, SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS, THE BRASS, URCHIN, VAGRA, and ANTI-ANDROGEN. Individual event pages will be coming soon including ones for the picnic at Freak Beach and the locals-only show at Hell's Door (under the bridge). We will also soon be announcing the organization we've chosen to donate Sunday's proceeds to.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! If you are wondering why you haven't heard from us lately, it's because we're currently working on some awesome new additions to this year's fest. One of those changes is me, Kensington Vivier, the new page administrator! I'm so honored to have been invited to help host Richmond Fight Back Fest and getting more involved in the incredible music scene here in Richmond. Something we are all really interested in as we start the planning process is getting more feedback from the community! We are devoting this year's Sunday show to a BENEFIT EVENT featuring several of our local bands. What we'd like is suggestions from all of our community members, supports, and fest-goers on what charities/organizations YOU are interested in giving back to? Please let us know how you would like to Fight Back!
