Emphasis on the Island - Make your kitchen island stand out from the rest of the kitchen - an easy way to do this is a contrasting color! Additonally, we're seeing kitchen islands take on a multi-purpose functionality. Make sure they're located in between the kitchen and the living room, where they take on the role as a catch-all family space, perfect for children eating quick breakfasts before school or doing homework while parents cook, or for you to temporarily put mail, groceries, or whip out your laptop for the odd errand.
Bold Rustic - The rustic style continues to dominate but now gets updated with a pop of bold color. Cabinets in a fresh color provide a great contrast to the natural neutrals of the rustic style.
Down to Earth - Think terracotta tile floors, brick backsplashes, house plants, brass hardware, stucco, stained concrete, natural textiles...anything that gives you that earthy feeling.
Black Cabinets - A dark kitchen can be so warm and moody with the right lighting and hardware. If you're worried, keep it from being overwhelming with upper cabinets in a natural wood finish or open shelving.
