In 2005 I built a Tweed Bandmaster amp for Kerry Wright, who was Howard Dumble's cabinet builder. The amp chassis was on Kerry's bench when Howard stopped by. Howard asked who built it (as he thought it was quality work and interesting component choices). He offered to do some mods on it as long as no one, especially the builder (me) would never be allowed to look inside of it and that Kerry never sell it with the mods installed. Kerry stuck to his word for 15 years and never let me look. This drove me nuts! Kerry told me at some point that a customer found out that he had a Dumble modified Tweed Bandmaster and he was determined to buy it from Kerry. His eventual offer of $24,000.00 was too much to resist and he sold it. Dumble found out at some point and was very angry at kerry causing a rift between them that lasted until Howards death (R.I.P.). I asked Kerry "Please tell me you took some pics inside before you sold it!". No was the answer. Kerry died sometime after this conversation (R.I.P.) and I have wondered ever since where this amp is. Kerry traded me 2 tweed bandmaster cabinets for the chassis I built. I still have the signed cabinets. I brought an original 3 x 10 Bandmaster cab to Kerry's shop in Fullerton, Ca (right down the street from the original Fender factory). To accurately model our cabs. Kerry's dad had an auto upholstery shop in that building back when Fender was still there. Kerry learned his trade from the actual cabinet builder at Fender, Sam Hutton. Kerry built himself this beautiful red 3 x 10 Bandmaster cab with one piece back. Pics are from when I set up the bias for him, I also built that vintagey bias meter with 1960's Honeywell milliamp meters. Pic of the actual chassis is on Kerry's bench exactly when Howard saw it. I just missed meeting Howard a couple of times at Kerry's, Eddie Van Halen, too. (A regular there, another R.I.P.).

This is an extensive rebuild of a real vintage 1959 Fender Tweed Bassman Amp I did for a local player. One of the greatest amps of all time! This pro player had it worked on several times over the many years he owned it and he said it sounded worse each time a tech did mods to "make it better". I brought it back to stock values, added an adjustable bias supply, and used vintage Mullard Mustard capacitors throughout. He played it onstage last night and was super happy with the result. He said it finally it sounds like it did all those years ago when he bought it. This is what makes all of my efforts worthwhile! Before and after pics. In total I replaced 27 of the components on the board plus filter capacitors. And of course, loaded it with awesome vintage tubes.

Early Days. My booth at the Santa Monica Guitar show in 2004. Brophy Dale and Larry Sitter in my booth. 5 of my Tweed Builds present. My favorite 1966 Gibson ES-330 and 1967 ES-335, and Black Beauty Les Paul Custom were all up for sale. Kerry Wright Cabinets booth next to me. Kerry Built all of Dumble's cabinets. R.I.P Kerry! I'm not in these pics.

One of my best days as an amp guy was seeing Kim Wilson of The Fabulous Thunderbirds blowing harp through a '59 Tweed Deluxe clone I built. Proud Papa.

This is a '59 Fender Tweed Bandmaster build that I did for a customer in Australia. It was the first one I did for 240 volt mains. I used vintage Mullard Mustard capacitors and a Mercury Magnetics (beefy) Bassman output transformer. Custom chassis, silver plated teflon wire, and vintage Allen Bradley carbon composition resitors. The chassis is shown mounted in my trusty old tweed head cab, but I shipped just the chassis to Australia.

A recent build was this tweed reverb tank I built for Bob Dylan's guitar and amp tech. To match his 1958 Fender Tweed Pro he purchased from me. I have a real vintage 1962 Fender reverb tank, and this build was 100% it's equal. I mounted both a 2 spring traditional tank and a 3 spring reverb tank in the cabinet. that can be swapped with a plug change. One vertically mounted and the other horizontally mounted.
