We have delivered Raleigh Reclaimed pieces to sprawling estates and small lofts, but most of the time we deliver to places in between. When we make a delivery, we see only a glimpse of how one of our pieces might change (or anchor) a space but we rarely get to see it in everyday life.
, our friend and photographer, happened to be at our home one day several years ago and captured this photo of a nook in our daughter's room. The ceramic ice cream cone painted with little hands wasn't moved out of sight, her mason jar terrarium stayed in its place, the bowl from a summer art camp holding random beads and legos wasn't relocated, and it was okay that Stormy, the Carolina Hurricanes mascot, was poking into the frame from the top of another book nook.
The "Rocket Learns to Read" book has since been replaced with a series of sci-fi chapter books. There are handmade bracelets and art projects scattered on top of the dresser most days. But the bouquet from a private, special moment still hangs, the framed photo of some graffiti reminding her to read every day hasn't been replaced, and that dresser is still there - the dresser our team made just for her and just for that little nook.
The second image, by , was also taken many moons ago, of our daughter and her thank you tree. Complete with turkey hands, half-strung popcorn strings, and the blue tennis shoes that had to be worn every day regardless of the occasion or outfit, this shot always reminds me to be thankful for all the perfectly, imperfect moments. We have one child away at college now, another who just got his driver's license last week, and our daughter is blissfully enjoying the happy days of elementary school. We know how quickly it all goes.
Thanks to all of you who let Raleigh Reclaimed be part of your beautiful, perfectly imperfect, everyday days.
