Creative Ceiling Designs

The design of a ceiling is important because it can greatly impact the look, feel, functionality, and efficiency of a space but also can be a way of distinguishing certain areas. Acoustics is one of the biggest elements that is incorporated into ceiling material as it plays an important role in controlling the sound quality within a room. Creatively designing a ceiling that incorporates acoustics while also carrying the design language of the rest of the space is a trend we want to see grow and evolve. Dynamic integrations of acoustical baffles/panels or even incorporating plants are ways to be more creative with how we design different ceilings. HVAC and other mechanical accessibility is also an important factor in considering your design solution for ease of access. Here are some designs that inspire us and push the barrier toward unique but functional spaces.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Eva Sonaike
The artist we are highlighting this week is a multicultural designer who was born and raised in Germany and is of Nigerian descent. Her experience of living with both cultures has influenced her work in many ways. With a degree in Fashion Journalism, she specialized in contemporary African fashion and textiles, and it drove her into starting up her company in 2009 specializing in luxury home textiles, soft furnishings, and interior design solutions with a vibrant, elegant West-African aesthetic. Her mission of “bringing color to life” has become the London-based company’s ethos and is prominent in her collections of cushions, rugs, furnishings, lamps, wallpapers, and interior textiles. Eva has over a decade of experience in the interiors industry and her stunning use of pattern and color showcases her talent for curating blends of culture and modern contemporary living.

A well-curated atmosphere can allow individuals to take on a journey and create lasting impressions on one's memories and emotions. Restaurant design is important for several reasons including brand identity, customer experience, atmosphere, functionality, and marketing. Another significant element is the colors and materials chosen for your space as they have the ability to e voke emotions and create moods, and different color hues can be used to create different feelings, such as warmth, comfort, excitement, or calmness. This Tokyo inspired space really transcends you into you a different world and uses neon colors and straight edges as a striking theme throughout.

As warmer weather approaches us, the desire for us to spend more time outdoors will increase. As expressed in my article from last week, there are many benefits to extending the workplace outside and this is the perfect time to start thinking about your outdoor furniture solutions. DESIGNER HIGHLIGHT: Sean Brown
Meet Sean Brown a multidisciplinary creative and cultural archivist who founded his own home goods brand, Curves. Curves feature décor and furniture pieces that embody his personal inspirations including the well-known CD rugs of his favorite iconic albums. Before starting Curves, Brown has taken on a dynamic list of projects and collaborations that can be explored on his blog. From photography, fashion, architecture, graphic and interior design, Brown approaches design and art with a sense of purity and believes “understanding the origin of things is important so you're informed and can reimagine from a clear place.”

New Products: Sancal ✨

Sancal is a design firm born and based in Spain that designs contract grade contemporary furniture with extraordinary innovation and creativity. Their motto “Smile, break the mold and be happy!” is reflected in their work by creating unique statement pieces that we like to call works of art. Sancal offers products from lounge and office furniture to accessories and works with a wide and diverse group of designers and architects. In past projects, we have used the Magnum and Tonella lounge chairs and they’ve generated very positive reactions. Sancal offers a wide selection of graded in textiles as well as COM, which allows the personalization of many of their products. One word: Obsessed!

New Products of the Week: Restaurant Edition! 🍽

These products are breaking into the restaurant business and with good reason. Ever found yourself eating at a wobbly table due to uneven flooring? Very annoying. Norock is here to end this for good with its newly engineered self-stabilizing table base. This award-winning design works on any surface, saves time/money, is sustainable, has no maintenance, and looks great! Often flooring is uneven, so we always suggest keeping the adjustability of bases a priority when specifying furniture for a restaurant.
