Today many of the decorating trends are leaning to simplicity, with a few well-selected, quality pieces instead of many pieces that may not be as well-chosen. Most of us love luxury, but we may think luxury means a lot of upkeep, or excessive amounts of linens and pillows to place back and forth each day. Not so. The new luxury is all about simplicity. The bed should be the focal point of the bedroom space. If you love a fully dressed bed with stunning fabrics and couture detail, then consider a custom upholstered headboard, coupled with just two European shams and centered throw pillow. Another option for easy elegance is to keep the color palette simple with the use of white, cream, or neutral beige for the sheets and coverlet, while adding a punch of color and texture through a pair of stunning custom shams and blanket in matching color. Then you can just switch out shams and blanket.

I have always believed that when starting to decorate, dreams are free. Spend sometime in the room writing down everything you might want to see in your finished room. Don't put a dollar sign on it, it stops the creative juices from flowing.
Once you have the list share with someone who won't judge it. Not all people can visualize that you have in mind.

You may be thinking it is a little too early for holiday planning, but I promise you'll thank me in the end. If you're looking to update your home before the season of entertaining begins, it is the perfect time to get started with planning. Allowing time to order and deliver is the main reason to be proactive with your holiday decorating plans. Have a plan, the biggest mistake I see people make when it comes to designing their interiors is not having a well organized plan, which is essential. A lot of Do-It-Yourselfers will tackle one thing at a time and then move on to the next. This approach is fine if the path is clearly defined. Preparing that plan within the next month will get your home ready by December.

When purchasing a new construction house or building a home, the task of designing the entire space can be an over whelming one. New construction should be completely planned- from arrangement of spaces to the materials and furnishings. When starting fresh it is best to come up with an overall concept and build from there. I will interview my client to determine the needs for each space withing the floor plan, develop a concept and then carry the concept out and carry the concept out into a plan for each individual room.

I am often asked, what is Transitional Style for the home. Transitional style is a blend of traditional and contemporary and equals a classic and time less design scheme. A minimalistic approach is taken by using a neutral palette with few accessories. Furniture lines are simple, yet classy. Fabrics used are very widespread but most of all create a comfortable but up scaled space. There is a lack of ornamentation found here which aides in creating that sense of sophistication. Often a monochromatic color palette is seen which produces a clean, serene atmosphere

Furniture placement is the core of every room and neglected the most. Empty out the space and find a focal point, such as a large window or fireplace, start by placing the biggest pieces such as sofas, and the smaller pieces, end tables, so that the focal point remains the first thing that catches your eye. Use angles to add the illusion of width to long, narrow "bowling ally" spaces. If you have competing focal points, setting furniture at angles can help complement both at one time. Enjoy
