A Nurtured Nest Location: Elk River, MN

Hello, my name is Angie...thanks for liking my page. I am blessed to be charged with taking care of my amazing family!

I love working on projects around our home and creating A Nurtured Nest for us to enjoy! I adore repurposing forgotten pieces and using them in fun new ways! I believe there is beauty in all things...even (especially) roadside finds! When I'm not DIY-ing it, I can be found: caring for my husband/bff and three entertaining kids, reading my favorite blogs, researching EO's, experimenting in the kit

chen, organizing or volunteering at school or church. On this page you will find painted furniture pieces for sale in the album cleverly entitled For Sale! You can also send a PM to A Nurtured Nest for info on custom painting services for a piece you already own and would simply like refreshed.

Houston, we have a problem. 😬

Check out the top right corner of these window blinds. Has this happened to you? If so, were you able to successfully fix the problem?

My internet research is telling me to remove the blinds from the window frame, peek inside the headrail and see if there’s a spool or threading issue causing the right side to bind up.

Before I start taking things apart, I’d love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with this. Was it an easy fix, a restringing project or a lost cause?

Although I’m not exactly in love with these blinds, I’m not ready to replace them either!
Hit me up with your suggestions in the comments. TIA!

Happy Monday that feels like a Sunday, friends!

This weekend was all about celebrating the seniors at our high school. Side note…next year WE’LL have a senior! 😳🄹

We packed a whole lot into this weekend — celebrating seniors, playing cards, a double feature on the big screen, a trip to Cabela’s, grilling up a feast, a sleepover, boating, fishing, a walk and so much sweaty yardwork!

The first step to grinding this massive stump was removing all the rock around it. Since we want to reuse the rock, the handy hubs suggested I use this homemade sifter aka wire shelf to ā€œcleanā€ the rock for reuse. Turns out sifting rocks somehow feels a little more rewarding when there’s a cool bev at the ready and a shower waiting at the end of the day.

Today was Take Your Dog to Work Day and Nash fully participated…whether he liked it or not.

He normally has free rein outside, but today we had multiple deliveries coming and baby geese on the pond out back that he is far too interested in. So I needed to leash him.

Can we just take a second to appreciate the new pew?! The thick lacquer on the seat is absolutely devouring sanding discs. It’s one of those ā€œthis is going to fight me every step of the wayā€ kind of jobs. But I can already tell it’s going to be worth every bit of effort once it’s done.

Slow progress today, but progress is progress.

The table is done (done-ish) and work on ā€œthe new pewā€ is underway.

Our eat in kitchen area transformation has been living in my head for a long time and it’s finally starting to feel real! Stay tuned for sawdust, second guesses and hopefully something beautiful in the end.

For my longtime friends…who knows what material I’m using to cover over the dehydrated and cracked veneer on the backrest of the pew? I’d love to see your answers in the comments below. I’ll circle back in a few days and leave the true answers in the comments. Credit for this stellar repurposing idea goes to Lisa at .lisa … Thanks, Lisa!

Have a fabulous Friday, friends!

pic of our eat in kitchen area in our former home.

Over the years we’ve had a few different kitchen table and chair combinations, but my very favorite was what we had in our former home right before we moved. We had a large table, 5 chairs and an 8 foot pew that I searched a long, long time for!

Sadly, that setup won’t work in our new home and since day one here I’ve been trying to figure out what would feel right in our eat in kitchen area. I think I’ve finally found a solution and I’m genuinely excited to see it all come together!

I plan to use 2 (maybe 3) of our former chairs, along with a table I recently found on FBMP … and drumroll please … a new to us pew I also recently found on FBMP! We brought both pieces inside already for a trial run to see how they fit and functioned and I thought they were šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

They both need love, so they’ll be my focus for the beginning of May. Also, can you believe it’s May?!!! I can’t!

I mentioned last week that I recently finished an armchair…here she is! šŸ¤

She’s not in her forever spot, eventually she’ll live in our den. For now she’s chillin in our family room and I kinda love her there.

And yes—I painted the fabric on the cushions and I have zero regrets.

Friends, don’t come at me…this was a $14.99 thrift store find which made it the perfect ā€œwhy not try itā€ project.

Have you ever painted fabric? If so, what was your process and how did it hold up?

Since moving, I’ve shared a little about the DIY home improvement projects happening in our den and in our primary bathroom. Sadly, both projects are currently on hold while we wait for materials to be delivered.

So instead of sitting still (because that’s not really my thing) I shifted gears and refinished four barstools and an armchair.

Let me just say, working on chairs again quickly reminded me that they are not for the faint of heart. All the angles, curves and hard-to-reach spots will test your patience real quick. Seeing these barstools now in their refinished state makes every bit of work worth it!

If I’m being honest, I’m not a huge fan of this walk-behind/bartender-style bar. However, for now we’re working with what we have and the addition of these barstools makes this space functional.

In a perfect world, I’d love to see this area become more of a kitchenette-style setup… wall cabinets for storage, a countertop for serving and a table and chairs for eating and game nights.

So tell me…are you team belly up to the bar or team kitchenette-style serving & hangout space?

怰ļø AVAILABLE 怰ļø

It’s been a minute since I posted a piece for sale, but this Cochrane Hutch is officially available!

Were you around back in 2020 when I found this piece, refinished it as a keeper piece and swore I’d keep it forever and ever?!

I absolutely love the look of it and it functioned so well in for us in our former home. However, after 9 months of trying to make it work here in our new home I’m admitting defeat. This hutch deserves to be enjoyed in a home where it truly shines!

I listed this piece on FBMP this morning, but I would honestly love for it to find a home with someone here in the A Nurtured Nest following.

Note - The hutch is currently in our garage and ready for easy loading at pick up. I did use AI to generate this fresh photo and I noted that the front facing area where the top cabinet meets the base cabinet is slightly different than in reality. I have additional photos of this piece taken at our former home and I’m happy to share them in a private message (I cannot share them publicly due to copyright).

Please message me if you’re interested in additional information or seeing additional photos.
