From The Chair Man's archives: one of our more iconic river shots with a whole lot of (our) very colorful Adirondacks and footstools. Private residence on the PendOreille river, of whose owners purchased said Adirondacks! I do remember this: the food, water, and company were great that day!

Something new: Coming up in our Fall craft shows, we will be offering a series of Bigfoot and "America 250" signs mounted on "character" and rustic wood. Stay tuned!

Recently watching an Asplundh crew take down a neighbors trio of 100-ft. (very) dead Ponderosa's, making available much firewood and "craft" wood.
With their very tall cherry picker, a myriad of saws, and experienced fellers who knew how to avoid both the house and fence, they made short work of this project. It was a joy watching how the paid professionals do it!

Another custom piece (Hope chest), ordered for someone who recently lost a loved one. We never know, from order to order, who's going to step onto our porch and the story behind their request. Building then, becomes much more personal, not just casual carpentry. We've made for the terminally ill and for those already passed ("Memorial" pieces).

This piece, solid black walnut laminated panels, framework and trim. 3/4" cherrywood plywood bottom on walnut skids. Final measurements: 37" Wide by 18" Tall by 17" Deep.
Finish: many coats of equal parts Urethane, linseed oil, mineral spirits.

Parting shots: Canary wood in the daylight even more beautiful! The one thing about doing custom/design work is the freedom to embellish. The customer agreed to our idea to accentuate the (inside) back and sides of each shelf with "waves and wings" out of thin strips of solid Canary wood.

In need of fresh air last week, ended up here, walking amongst The GIANTS; just 10-miles from the 49th parallel (Canada)! And yes, the cedars are really that big! And the air. . . was really good!

The latest from our Woodshop: We're not cabinet makers! We'd much rather work with curves than straight lines. BUT, a very loyal repeat customer had to have one last piece of furniture out of his beloved Canary wood, with his customary WAVE; 4-ft. tall book/ knick knack case. Nearly 3-ft. wide and 15" deep. The back is a very expensive 3/4 inch cherry plywood.
The finish: 4 coats of equal parts Urethane/linseed oil/mineral spirits.

Oh my, how the Adirondack chair has evolved; from a cabin porch in a Montana ghost town we visited last year. . . to our front yard! We're glad that some things never go out of vogue!

It was great reconnecting with old friends from the Kootenai County Farmers’ Market yesterday @ "Taste of Coeurdalene", city park! They'll be there through tomorrow afternoon, stop in and say hi! And was absolutely enamored with the music of "Ride Share"; what talent, from Santana to Sergio Mendes, playing again this afternoon!

WE SUPPORT THE TIMBER INDUSTRY!!! Nearly every day when I travel hiway 95, I spot a steady stream of these (fully loaded log trucks). Photo is from 7/29/26.
Way to go Idaho!

Our Panhandle National Forest is SO OVERGROWN, as is many western states' forests, creating an ecological disaster when a single spark starts an inferno.

How do I know our local forests are OVERGROWN? Because we spend a lot of time hiking through them (from the Fernan Ranger station to the Canadian border). For 40-years my wife and I have been doing this. . .firewood, Christmas trees, huckleberry picking, camping, searching out waterfalls, photography, and just for the general enjoyment of them!

Before our exploration together, Kim was a road builder for the Forest Service and I was a Forest Service Surveyor (but in totally different Idaho forests, nearly 50-years ago).

"Log it. . .or watch it burn!!"
