Today while towing the trailer the ball lock padlock broke off, which then allowed the ball hasp to bump open, which on the next bump, allowed the hitch to come completely off the ball, the trailer to disconnect from the car, & the support foot to drag behind the car & dig into the asphalt as I screeched to a stop. The good news was-we were OK! The trailer was ok! The safety chains held! We had another padlock in the car from our many storage trips this month.. so all was really ok!
I had to chip the trailer foot out of where it had dug in with a rock, so i could un tension the chains, so I could get under the car to get them unlocked, to get the ball back on, hasp relocked & all locked down with the new padlock. I was filthy- but we were OK!
The part that really got me was this.. I was on the side of busy highway 99 for about 1/2 an hour of constant traffic, absolutely filthy, with my hazards on, & not a single car stopped. I was honked at, yelled at, insulted and sworn at.. and not one car offered help.
It really got into my head. Got me thinking about where we are at as a society? as a country? maybe just here on this highway? I believe I would have stopped, my husband absolutely would have stopped. It made me genuinely curious-what do you think? Would you have stopped to help?

Always check Charity Navigator, GuideStar, or the BBB Wise Giving Alliance ratings before donating.
A common myth is that bigger national charities are automatically better.
Most small, local organizations focused on specific needs (housing for homeless veterans, PTSD support, or job training ) have higher impact per dollar than massive national groups.

No legitimate charity can operate with zero overhead. However- The best ones keep administrative and fundraising costs under 25 percent and are very transparent about it.

The top organizations specialize: some focus on su***de prevention, others on housing, employment, or family support. Match your donation to the cause you care about most to make a bigger difference.

A frequent error is donating once and assuming its enough. The best charities evolve with needs. What worked in 2020 may not be the priority in 2026.
Regular research keeps your regular giving impactful.

Finally many assume that if a charity has big ad campaigns it must be trustworthy. Marketing budgets come from donations SO quiet, highly rated organizations with low overhead usually do the most good.
