Today while towing the trailer the ball lock padlock broke off, which then allowed the ball hasp to bump open, which on the next bump, allowed the hitch to come completely off the ball, the trailer to disconnect from the car, & the support foot to drag behind the car & dig into the asphalt as I screeched to a stop. The good news was-we were OK! The trailer was ok! The safety chains held! We had another padlock in the car from our many storage trips this month.. so all was really ok!
I had to chip the trailer foot out of where it had dug in with a rock, so i could un tension the chains, so I could get under the car to get them unlocked, to get the ball back on, hasp relocked & all locked down with the new padlock. I was filthy- but we were OK!
The part that really got me was this.. I was on the side of busy highway 99 for about 1/2 an hour of constant traffic, absolutely filthy, with my hazards on, & not a single car stopped. I was honked at, yelled at, insulted and sworn at.. and not one car offered help.
It really got into my head. Got me thinking about where we are at as a society? as a country? maybe just here on this highway? I believe I would have stopped, my husband absolutely would have stopped. It made me genuinely curious-what do you think? Would you have stopped to help?
