I'm not looking for a political debate, so you can save those comments. Just wanted to share a humorous take on a new mallet I just finished.

I present to you... Donald Thump.

Q: What to do when you need packing material, need an arm workout and have many, many, many cut-offs laying around the shop?

A: You put the No. 5 to work.

Something tells me it's time to empty the hopper. I guess I've been planing a bit more than I thought!

By the way, if anybody is in CNY and wants clean wood shavings/saw dust, just message me. This is about 18 cubic feet. It is primarily oak.

It's great for soaking up oil spills around the garage... but even I am not that messy!

Turns out, the old wives tale is correct..."A watched bootjack doesn't dry". Or something like that. :)

Pretty cool honor. Will be supplying bootjacks for the Wrangler National Rodeo Finals in Las Vegas. Truth be told, I don't think I want to make another one of these for a while. :)

Glue will be dry in the morning. One final cut of the foot, a light sand, a coat of Danish Oil and these little doggies will be gettin' along to Vegas.

Honored and humbled at the chance to help this gentleman pay tribute to his late son.

Very pleased to hear him say "... Here’s a couple pictures of it placed. I think it’s fabulous, better than I imagined. Especially satisfying is that it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the instrument, yet still honors Taj in a fitting tribute."

Zaar Z420SE, custom pick guard incorporating Bolivian Santos Rosewood and epoxy.

Really enjoyed working on this. Kind of sad to see it go. But I hope it helps this gentleman to remember his son and brings him years of enjoyment.

Live and learn.

Unfortunately, the pick guard arrived in horrible condition. I had let the enamel cure for 48 hours, but appearantly that wasn't long enough. Ironically, the foam that was to protect it during shipment, transferred it's texture to the enamel, ruining the piece. What a disappointing mistake!

So, I made a second piece and this time finished in a high gloss, table top epoxy. This is a highly durable, scratch resistant finish that should stand the test of time. Will post a picture of it on the guitar later this week.

It's been a little while since I posted, but it doesn't mean I haven't been busy.

In a guitar site to which I belong on Facebook a gentleman mentioned that he would like to memorialize his son who passed away at 1 month old. He was asking for advice on how to engrave his son's name in his guitar.

I suggested to make him a custom pick guard incorporating his son's name, and he took me up on my offer.

I feel very honored and humbled to help with such a beautiful gesture.

His son was named Taj, and they called him their little prince... hence the crown.
