"Our designs are contemporary, yet our work maintains strong roots in traditional and early modern architectural styles". Originally involved in New Urban residential and mixed-use projects, Richard spent several years working with the nationally renowned architectural firm of Looney Ricks Kiss, along with many other firms before opening his own eponymous design studio in 2005. Today his award win
ning studio focuses on designing highly crafted houses along with furniture inspired by traditional and contemporary architectural styles. "We approach programs and problems with the belief that the finest solutions are both logical and direct, leading to timeless design. Through our work we continually redefine those styles with a clean modern approach. This has become the signature for both the houses we design and the furniture we build". Richard received his architectural training at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and later studied at Pratt Institute where he received his professional degree. He has also continued his post graduate studies through seminars at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard. Over the years his work has appeared in various publications including, Coastal Living, Style 1900, Home, Design NJ, Metropolitan Home, Arts & Crafts Homes, Old House Interiors, and Builder. The architecture and furniture of his Surfers End House was featured in the 2006 Summer/Fall issue of Style 1900 and the October 2007 issue of Home as well as Old House Interiors as recently as November 2009. RBD's "Diana Chair" was included in Lark Books' publication, "500 Chairs". His drawings, designs, and furniture have been exhibited at Pratt Institute, FIT, The Van Alen Institute, and The Michael Ingbar Gallery of Architectural Art in New York City. He has also been an exibitor at the Fine Furnishings Show in Providence. Since opening hs studio in 2005, his firm has designed private residences primarily along the coast of New Jersey, but for a clientele that reaches across the United States. He is continually working on new ideas for his Surfers End furniture collection, as well as new designs for homes along the coast. His firm has received numerous prominent designs awards including the Watermark Awards, Qualified Remodeler Master Design Awards, Residential Design + Build Awards, and several Best of Houzz Awards.
