A bittersweet announcement:

So it has been a wild couple of months and now... We are moving! To Minnesota!

I have been offered a position as a Cabinet Maker with the R.C. Smith Company in the Minneapolis area. R.C. Smith produces custom medical cabinetry and casework for hospitals, pharmacies, and Caribou Coffee internationally, and I am very excited to be given the opportunity to work for this remarkable family owned business.

So while I don't want to let go of our home, which has so many memories and such a large portion of my life dedicated into it, the opportunities to grow and learn from a team who have been masters in their craft for over 60 years is too good of a chance to pass up.

Over the next month or so while all the real-estate mess resolves itself (shout out to .kaetterhenry, at EXP Reality for handling that) I will be closing out what remains of the orders and projects here in Wisconsin ahead of the move. That is not to say I will refuse orders from Wisconsin in the future, but you should expect longer wait times and or more logistical planning involved when it comes to design and delivery.

My family and I love our home state, and will miss those here that we've grown accustom to seeing daily but are extremely excited and optimistic about what the future will hold for us across the border! Thank you all so much for your continued support over the past few years while I've been figuring out how to do this whole thing out of my garage, and I hope I can still count on your support from just a little further away!

Much love, Nick, Abbey, and Otto!

Look at this BEAUTY. Every once in a while you get lucky with grain patterns and this is one brings the drama! Solid Red Oak all around and a clean and balancing presence in the space it definitely lends a wow factor to this fireplace. A fun build that came out right on after a couple small adjustments to make it right from every angle .

Woof... this thing was a beast! At 79" wide by 70" tall by 16" deep, it'll hold ATLEAST two, maybe three books. Red Oak stained in that warm mahogany gives it that comfortable library feel you want when you're cozying up to a good read. Would you believe I loaded this thing up in the truck by my lonesome? Lol I'm exhausted, sheesh!

Simple but elegant. There was another plan in place for this mantle BUT this fireplace kicks out the BTU's so we got limited on how far out we could go with it by firecode. Much simpler and just a touch too skinny to include a surround, but I think it still fits the space nicely!

I would like to post on here so people are aware. I will no longer be operating a Tik-Tok account for this business. I took the time to read through the most recent terms and conditions and cannot support the censorship, information harvesting and distribution, or clear goals of the data harvesting held within the American contract the company has agreed to.

I am currently working on finding another platform in shortform media that I can transition to.

Another project off the winter list! Custom built in book (boardgame) shelves, in stained red oak, color matched to the existing trimwork. Not too shabby for some left over scraps from in the shop!

Recently finished this weekend project. A surround for the washer and dryer. Nothing beats a wide, flat, tall surface for folding fresh laundry! Plus that Red Oak grain really elevates the space, so that doesn't hurt.

A very happy Small Business Saturday everyone! We're getting snowed in a bit here today so I thought I'd share my current project with you all! Ein Fachwerkhauser! It still needs some holiday embellishments but its coming together nicely.

Remember everyone, this year even more than others, to patronize your local small businesses over those big corps. They're doing things for you because they love doing them, the corps just want your money. Hope everyone continues enjoying their holiday season with their families, I know I am!

I promised to post projects when I remembered this page exists, and I will admit I've been a bit of a recluse this year.

This year has been a staunch continuation of last year with one bright platinum lining. In the pictures, the two gallon bucket pictured is half full of broken glass, metal, melted plastic, and other wonderful remnants of the fire that I've been plucking out of the yard all summer The yard in question has had to be rather intensely landscaped, we cleared over 20 dead trees off the property and added 20' of grass space along the width of the backyard (so much more room for activities!), as well as adding nearly 12 yards of black dirt to fill in all the ruts and pits left from the reconstruction last year (grass is still in the process of loading).

The project in question, as pictured, was the deck! It was original to the home, rotten in some places, burned in others, and all around a major safety risk. After two days of pounding away at it, I can proudly say no one will require tetanus shots to be allowed to sit on it any longer! With the end of the old deck, I can proudly say that the reconstruction of our home is finally completed, and not a moment too soon either!

And with that, I would very happily like to announce (to the few people who don't already know) that my wife and I are expecting our first son this October! And yes, the deck is going to get a railing, I know how the internet works, and I'm not going to post a fall risk and then pretend it isn't there. We are extremely excited for our little family to grow, and while I'm still not entirely sure why she wants to have kids with me, I want to thank my amazing wife Abbey for being so incredibly patient with me for this last year and a half while the house has been a continous work in progress. It hasn't been easy, but she has always been with me doing what she can to keep me going, and that is worth everything we've lost and so much more.

So where does this long sappy diary entry place this business, I ask... myself? Holding on, but not by much. As we are all painfully aware everything is expensive right now, and the weaponized incompetence of a certain otherwise intractable administration isn't going to improve that situation for anyone (I have to use words they need to Google otherwise they'll block my account faster). I am still finishing my degree this fall (hopefully Summa Cum Laude), and as such with my progeny along for the ride will be operating at selective business level until atleast January. So If you have a project that you would like to run by me I am all ears. However, I am going to counsel you accordingly depending on costs, I got into this whole thing to make things people need done for a reasonable price. I've spent over a third of my life learning skills because what some people want for those skills is simply outrageous, and I want to help people make things happen without the greed involved. If a project hits the "Whoa" category, I'm going to be very upfront about that with you.

Now, welcome to the bottom of this post. If you made it this far, I just want to say I love you for your support. I appreciate you for checking in, and I look forward to seeing you all next time on "Man, This Dude Likes to See Himself Type!" TM pending.

I will not be accepting any new projects this year.

I am fully booked through September, and in the fall, I will be finishing my pre-law degree at UWGB. I have been splitting my time 4 ways for the last 3 years in pursuit of this degree and now at the end, along with other things coming up this year, I cannot afford to further strech myself.

As such, anything new would be put off until next January at the earliest. I will try and continue posting current projects here when I remember, but those will be few and far between as the materials costs continue to climb.

(Picture of something green because today's weather has me just plain mad.)
