When you finally land the fish of a lifetime, it deserves better than a bare wall.
I built the custom cedar backer, carved “HALIBUT” across the top, and made the engraved plaque to tie the whole mount together.
If you’ve got a trophy fish, antlers, or a mount that needs a proper home, I can design a one‑off back plate and plaque to match your space.

Here’s where it’s headed.
This aromatic cedar oval will sit behind a carved halibut, turning a standard mount into a full custom display with shape, color, and texture working together.
I modeled the whole thing first so the fish, plaque cutout, and backer all feel like one piece—not an afterthought.

Rough shape, zero finish.
This slab is built from aromatic cedar, glued up, shaped, and sanded into a big oval backer for a custom halibut mount.
Cedar’s natural color and knots are going to frame the fish without stealing the show.

Edge work day.
Once the glue‑up was dialed in, I refined the oval outline, eased the edges, and chased out any problem spots before moving to finish.
All that red dust on the floor is the price of getting the profile just right.

Guard dog, but make it custom.
Laser‑engraved front plate for Winnie, done in‑house on my Xtool setup.
If your ride needs a tag as mean as your dog’s stare, I can design one from scratch.

Rolling out to the Seabee Ball.
After weeks of cutting, sanding, spraying and tweaking, there’s nothing like strapping a finished piece in the trailer and taking it to the unit that’s going to use it.
Huge honor to build this grog bucket for the Seabees and be a tiny part of their ceremony.

A grog bucket has to look good from 10 feet away and work perfectly up close.
This one has removable bins and hardware so it’s easy to set up, clean, and store between Balls, without beating up the wood.
Built to be a tradition piece the Seabees can use year after year.

Ever seen a grog bucket like this at a Seabee Ball?
This custom hardwood bucket was built in my Plato, MO shop for last weekend’s Seabee Ball—solid wood sides, layered curves, and a welded steel base to survive many more years of stories.
Seabees build, so their grog bucket had to look built, too.

Before it held grog, it was just a pile of boards and a plan.
I laminated the curves, added internal ribs for strength, then designed and installed these custom “teeth” and brackets so everything lined up for the Ball.
Projects like this are why I love mixing woodworking, CNC, and metalwork in one build.

Transfers and PCS orders can feel like they hit overnight, so it’s cool when a command slows down long enough to say ‘thank you.’
This custom plaque was built as a going‑away gift for a sailor transferring to a new unit—pulling in details from their rate and command so it actually means something when it goes up on the wall at the next duty station.
As a Navy vet running Walnut Rd Woodworks in Plato, MO, these pieces are personal. I know how much it means to have something solid to remember a crew by when you’re unpacking gear in a brand‑new shop.
If your command or work center has sailors rotating out and you want something more meaningful than a generic plaque, send me a message and we’ll design a custom transfer gift that fits your unit.
