Another standing desk, this one is off to a client in Boston. Dipped into the stash of special boards (that you're saving for...something) to find the figured cherry and birds eye maple for this piece. For my WW pals: the birds eye is some that Tom Lathrop had been squirreling away for 30 years and wouldn't sell us, until recently. Amazing figure.

So, standing desks seem to be happening... Here's a snapshot of one I've recently completed. The assignment: create a utilitarian piece of simple design (relatively inexpensive!) that allows maximum freedom of movement around the desk while working, either standing or seated, using our local Vt. hardwoods. My solution was a trestle design (w/return) using figured & plain sawn yellow birch.

Back to the 18th century...a Hepplewhite style dresser for a client in Dallas. This, a companion piece for another I built 4-5 years ago, uses similar materials/ details & hardware in a different configuration (6 drawer vs. 5 drawer) Looks like I'll get to enjoy having it in the shop for a while longer...shippers are on hold. Hope everyone is staying well!

Work in progress. Display case for our friends at Highland Center for the Arts, ready for doors & crown assembly. End panel is book-matched curly cherry with mother of pearl, vermillion inlays and curly maple bead. Round opening will receive a cool mica panel by Trenny Robb of High Beams Lighting...

We recently delivered this cool sideboard to our friends at Highland Center for the Arts Greensboro VT . Somewhere between Art-Deco and Modern, the piece is built with figured cherry (to match a table we also did for the room) Roble burl veneer and curly maple. Door/ drawer pulls were turned Tagua nut (palm ivory), a sustainable resource and a dead ringer for the real thing.

Woodworkers boot-camp...beautiful matched set of wide, thick (heavy!) figured cherry boards. And me in the shop alone. A week later and we have the completed top with first coat of finish...whew
