From those humble beginnings on Canal Street, the company grew into the pre-eminent bespoke cabinet shop and furniture dealer in the area. Fighting through and growing during the Depression and World War II, Hart & Sons expanded into exterior carpentry, construction, and roofing in the 1950s as the post-War boom created opportunity. Carrying on the tradition of high-quality and custom work, Hart & Sons sought out jobs that posed too much of a challenge for rival firms. By focusing on fine restoration work in some of the most historic homes in the area, Hart & Sons quickly developed a reputation for quality work by seamlessly integrating new construction and restoration. Specializing in slate and terra cotta roofs, custom copper flashing and gutters, historic preservation, restoration, custom masonry, and chimneys, Hart & Sons became the choice for customers seeking high quality, bespoke work. Our mill, warehouse and workshop is in Plainfield, NJ, “The Queen City”, where for 20 years, we have been accepting logs from local arborists otherwise destined for landfills or firewood. Because we use reclaimed wood and fabricate everything on-site, we have dramatically reduced our impact on the environment while simultaneously producing high quality hardwood boards of all dimensions.
