It's not just about creating new things out of old pieces. Or breathing new life and purpose into items that have long been forgotten or collected dust. Seeing the value and treasure in someone else's "trash" and then recreating the story it will tell once refurbished into something new and exciting helps lessen the carbon footprint we leave on this earth. Perfectly suited for anyone’s home, this set has already found its new owners and will serve as bedside tables for years to come.

Hoarding: not cool. Saving old, dusty vintage things from a landfill: very cool. The wood used in these two simple pieces was from a set of basement steps in a 100+ year old Pittsburgh home; the faucet k***s were gathered over time, lying at the bottom of bins of “unwantables” ready for trash day. New purpose. New life. New empty space in my workshop where I can stockpile more cool, old stuff!

Megan, a new friend of The Wood & Needle, purchased this fun, one of a kind wine cart reborn from a 1960's teacher podium. For more than 40 years, it stood tall in a History classroom while students got drunk on knowledge. Holding nearly 20 bottles of wine now and enough glasses for quite a party, I'm sure it's new owner will find plenty of ways to celebrate the past, present and future while popping corks with family and friends! Salvaged from a local high school history classroom where it stood for more than 45 years, this podium has been reborn into something every teacher or preacher could use on a Monday morning…a rolling wine cart. Stripped down to just its frame, this piece is now equipped to hold 15 bottles of wine, at least 12 wine glasses, and plenty of cocktail accessories in the removable tin bin that hangs below. Complete with a custom cork-covered table top featuring wine corks ranging from Chardonnays to Cabernets.

This Travelure by Mendel vintage suitcase is in really nice condition, complete with key set for the lock and plenty of pockets and cargo space inside. An original U.S. Customs sticker, sturdy steel hairpin legs and a stainless steel inner liner compliment the cool look of the suitcase, which is olive green in color with a mustard pinstripe. Only a few small nicks and scrapes, as expected for all that this suitcase has probably went through over the years to get from here to there.
