Re-Find Restorations

Re-Find Restorations Making old things beautiful again with paint, wood and a spark of inspiration! 10% of our sales are donated to Hope's Promise Orphan care program. Hi!

My name is Penny and I've been running Re-Find Restorations for 10 years. Years ago I was a professional faux finish painter but once we had a baby and a toddler I started out working from home on one piece of furniture at a time in our little one car garage. After a few years I started doing hand painted signs, kitchen cabinets, railings and other interior painting jobs. We moved to Peyton in 201

7 and I knew as soon as I saw our workshop I could use this space to host some great events! My passion is not only to create beautiful products from cast away furniture and wood, I also love empowering other artists to create and put their work out into the world for everyone to see and enjoy. Creativity and the arts are so needed in our current world climate of apprehension, stress and confrontation. The beauty of creativity is not only in a physical object, but in what those objects represent - choosing to see the potential and the beauty in the world, even through hardship. My goal is to host as many Boho Barn Boutique events each year as possible, making these events a regular thing for people to look forward to. Another passion of mine is orphan care! I have been in some amazing places in the world to partner with the work of Hope's Promise by doing creative projects with kids to use as fundraising pieces and donor gifts. 10% of Re-Find Restoration's sales go directly to Hope's Promise and I ask each vendor that participates in the Boho Barn Boutique to do the same. Together we can partner to make this world a better place through creativity and supporting the amazing work of Hope's Promise!

I’ve been having fun trying a new thing the past few months - beaded fringe earrings! I had tons of seed beads as a kid and would spend hours sorting them and making necklaces and bracelets on a loom, so the nostalgia draws me to keep going with it. I’m really enjoying the instant gratification of being able to start and finish a project in one sitting, plus the stakes aren’t as high with these. If I don’t love the color combo or design, I can just do something different next time. I’m thinking smaller projects are going to be my new ā€œthingā€ in this busy season of life.

Nasturtiums for my sister’s belated birthday gift! I kept going back and forth on whether to make them realistic looking or have an almost water color effect and be a little softer. This is where I landed. I haven’t played with colored pencils in years so this has been fun to break them out again. I’m learning some things and am excited to improve in my skills. What flowers should I try next?

Last year was not the best creative year for me. I started out 2023 with determination I’m going to make more time for art. Colored pencil is something I love but haven’t done in AGES. I decided on zinnias because my mom grows them every year and I love the colors and textures so much!

This indoor barn quilt was finally delivered as an Easter gift so now I can post it. (I didn’t want to give away the surprise!) It was a lot of fun to make. The wood for the frame was new, but the main piece was part of an old table. šŸŒ±šŸ’œšŸŒø

Spring flowers! Barn quilt process. Lots of taping and letting it dry for a day before working on the next section. Now it’s time for a clear coat and frame. Oh, and did I mention this board was once part of an old tabletop? I love reusing materials, especially with the rising cost of everything right now!

It has been a WHILE since my last post. 8 months, I think. After some major heath issues, crazy family dynamics, new jobs for both my husband and I, and broken arms for both of our kids, I’m FINALLY ready to dive into painting projects again. This is going to be a fun one!

Some people ask how I do it all but I want to clarify the Boho Barn Boutique is definitely not just the ā€œPennyā€ show. Yes, I do work my butt off to make it happen but there are so many people who contribute, and if I didn’t have them it would not have gotten off the ground in the first place. My sister Dorie has flown here from Virginia for the first two events, spending days of her time and energy to make sure everything is in place in time for the events. Her whole family helped paint the shop red 2 years ago, my brother-in-law David volunteered a week of his time, including overseeing checkout for the first event and my nephew Jesse came out in June to help get our property cleaned up. My sister Colette helps with design and staging ideas and always has high quality items to add to the mix, my mom’s best friend Mary helped with checkout for the event in June. My mom Dot finds vintage furniture and pieces for me to restore or put in the sale. My sister Julie has had tea and cute seed packets for sale. My sister-in-law Krystal has contributed quilted greeting cards for zero profit and has cheered me on. My friend Colleen spent time with my kids and offered her time and talent to capture great photos of the event. This doesn’t even include vendors, other family members and countless friends who have supported and encouraged me in this journey. The Boho Barn Boutique is most definitely a labor of love. For the love of creativity, community and giving to Hope’s Promise orphan care. I’m so grateful to see this vision coming to life one day at a time! I couldn’t do it without you all.

Working on this custom co****le set. I’m loving the stain colors! šŸ˜AND I discovered an amazingly simple, inexpensive drill bit on Amazon for $14.49 to help me cut perfect 6 inch holes. This made the job so much less stressful, especially since the sheet of maple plywood was $85. No room for error. 😳😬
