🐾 HELP US KEEP PETS WITH THE FAMILIES WHO LOVE THEM 🐾

Right now, the community pet food pantry at Petersburg Animal Care and Control is being utilized more than ever before.

Families in our community are struggling. Rising costs, housing instability, job loss, and unexpected hardships are forcing many people to make impossible choices, and we are seeing more and more pet owners turning to the pantry for help simply trying to keep food in their pets’ bowls.

For many families, this pantry is the difference between keeping a beloved pet or surrendering them to a shelter.

We urgently need donations of dog and cat food to continue supporting our community and preventing animals from losing their homes.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter Monday–Friday from 10am–3pm.

As I organize the carving tool drawers, I realize how many years it took me to acquire all these tools. When you hire a craftsman, it’s not just their time on the job you are paying for, but it’s also the years of experience and all the tools required to do the job. Carving- especially replicating historic pieces- requires many sweeps, gouges, and rifling files in many sizes and curvature. Some of these tools were my grandfather’s; Some I can remember buying when I was much younger and it was a huge expense to buy that one sweep that I really needed. I know each and every tool and where and when I got it. Many of the rifling files came from a friend in Italy. I think of him every time I use them. I also think of my grandfather and wish he were here to see me using his tools. These are things I think about when alone at the bench.
