Outstanding! Camp Shelby is a valuable asset for your great state!
The United States Army has selected Camp Shelby as one of five premier military test ranges where private industry will receive streamlined access for internal research and development.
This is a massive win for our state and our nation.
The goal is to accelerate the development of advanced technologies and get better capabilities into the hands of American warfighters faster.
Through this initiative, private companies will have streamlined access to realistic and specialized military test environments where they can conduct their own research, development, and testing.
That includes companies working on technologies like drones, counter-drone systems, long-range fires and low-cost interceptors.
It also includes non-traditional defense companies that may have never worked with the federal government before. That part is especially important.
Historically, accessing military test ranges could be difficult for private companies, particularly startups and other innovators without an existing relationship with the federal government.
After companies test and evaluate and iterate, they’ll be armed with the data needed to more effectively pitch platforms to the Department of War, DHS and other agencies. And when companies win those contracts, Mississippi will be here to help them find a manufacturing site.
So today, I want to extend a direct invitation to American industry.
