One day, a truck pulled up to our warehouse carrying a piece of aviation history.
Well...several pallets of it.
With just four weeks until the opened, we got a call from asking if we could restore the original seats from the iconic Connie aircraft for a one-of-a-kind cocktail bar.
We said yes but we honestly had no idea what it would take. The seats arrived covered in decades of grime, with cigarette butts still sitting in the ashtrays. They smelled like they'd been waiting for us for decades.
We tore every seat down to its core, sandblasted and refinished the frames, rebuilt the upholstery and slowly pieced everything back together. Then came the surprise.
The first restored seat looked perfect... until it immediately tipped over. It turned out airplane seats rely on the aircraft itself for support, so we had to engineer an entirely new way for them to stand on their own. That’s the type of challenge you don't discover until you're deep into the work.
A few weeks later, we walked into the finished Connie. The lights were on, the bar was open and the aircraft had come back to life. It was hard to believe where those chairs had started! Sometimes the most memorable projects are the ones where you have no idea how you're going to get to the finish line. You just know you'll get there.
