A Walnut Burl already has an incredible amount of natural character, but once the finish starts going on, the grain, depth, and patterns really begin to come alive.

Nature did the hard part. We just get to finish the story. 🙌🏾🪵✨

Thirteen years ago I picked up my first Granberg mill, and today we're building heirloom pieces in an 8,000 square foot shop.

It all started with one mill and a lot of questions.

This coming Tuesday (August 8th) at 4pm (PST), I'm hosting a free webinar to share what I've learned about growing this thing, the good, the bad, and everything in between.

If you're thinking about taking your milling or woodworking to the next level, come hang out.

A little behind the scenes of a pretty cool project coming together at Deadwood.

We’re building a custom round top with a built-in Lazy Susan, and this is one of those parts of the process you don’t normally get to see.

From the main top to the center section and the mechanism that brings it all together, it’s been a fun one to watch take shape.

We’re grateful to be a part of projects like this and even more excited to see this one finished and in its new home.

Stay tuned for the final piece. 🙌🏾

Most of us can remember that one piece at Grandpa and Grandma’s house. The table everyone gathered around. The old hutch that was always in the same corner. The piece of furniture that somehow became part of the family.

Years go by, people change, homes change... but those pieces have a way of carrying the stories with them.

That’s what we hope to build at Deadwood.

Something handcrafted from a tree with a story of its own, built to become part of yours... and hopefully still be there when the next generation starts telling theirs.

Contact us today to create something your family can enjoy for generations.

Ever seen a milling setup?

This is our Lucas Mill. One of the most important tools in our sawmill.

It's where raw logs begin their transformation into usable lumber.

Every measurement, every adjustment, every pass of the blade is about creating material we can trust for the next stage of the process.

Because great furniture starts long before the wood ever hits the shop. 🪵

That first look never gets old. 😂

Ever seen a wood kiln being opened?

That water is part of the story.

When a tree is first milled, there’s still a tremendous amount of moisture trapped inside the wood. Before those slabs can become tables, desks, mantels, or anything else we build, that moisture has to come out.

And it has to come out correctly.

The kiln gives us a controlled environment to slowly bring the wood down to the moisture content we’re looking for before it ever reaches the shop floor.

It’s one of those steps most people never see... but it can make all the difference in how a finished piece performs years down the road.

There’s a certain attachment that happens when you spend weeks building a piece in the shop.

You watch it go from raw material to something recognizable. You make hundreds of little decisions. You work through the challenges. And eventually, it starts to feel like it belongs there.

Then you deliver it.

Suddenly, the piece you’ve been staring at under shop lights is sitting exactly where it was designed to be.

The room changes around it.

The family gathers around it.

And what meant something to us while we were building it takes on an entirely different meaning for the people who will actually live with it.

From that point forward, we’re no longer part of most of the story.

The dinners, birthdays, conversations, celebrations and ordinary Tuesday nights... that part belongs to them.

Maybe that’s the best part of building something meant to last. We get to start the story. They get to keep writing it.
