I needed to replace the sheetrock over the shower \ tub in the spare bathroom on the 2nd floor. Looked very much like regular sheetrock and not the green mold-resistant sheetrock.

I haven't been living in my house 4 1/2 years, and I'm picking shingles up all over the yard, Most expensive mistake of my life is purchasing a KBS Home. According to the weather channel winds are under 25 mph.

On the Wednesday evening the 13 of August I emailed Wyatt and Ray at KBS about the wrinkles in my roof. This was followed by a very prompt reply Thursday morning from Wyatt telling me I need to contact Dan Millett in the warranty department. Dan was copied on the email. After calling KBS and finding Dan was out of the office the week of the 16th I waited. On 9-2-2015 I sent an email to all three wanting to know why there has been no contact. Later that day Dan called and informed me that my house was more than a year old and there was nothing they would do. He told me to contact CertainTeed and make a claim against them for faulty shingles. I have since had roofing company’s inspect my roof and the wrinkles are caused by KBS improperly installing the water and ice on the roof.
In good faith I would not recommend anyone thinking about a modular to purchase from this company.
Again this is just my experience in dealing with KBS Building in South Paris Maine.
Well I guess it’s off to our attorney,

This is my experience with having our home built by KBS Building Systems located at PO Box 220 300 Park St. South Paris, ME 04281

After speaking with a few people that had purchased modular homes we decided to purchase from KBS. The reviews and quality of the homes from people we talked to was top notch.
In August of 2011 we designed and ordered our home, we dealt with Ray and Tiffany from KBS in Maine instead of the Connecticut sales company, They were very helpful.
A major mistake we made was letting the designers at KBS do the placement of the outlets and switches. It wasn't until we were finishing the house that we realized a few mistakes \ bad switch placements had been done.
There were four things that should have been done differently.
1. The light and ceiling fan switch in the family room is not on the arch way wall next to the opening but on the back outside wall of the house.
2. When you walk in to the kitchen from the back door hall there are no light switch’s in the kitchen at that entrance. You need to walk across the room to turn on the lights. There are three different types of lights in the kitchen.
3. We had two electrical boxes installed under the roof line in the back of the house to lite up the swimming pool and basketball courts on the drive way. There was supposed to be seperate switchs for each flood light at each of the back doors. Both lights are on one switch and now in need to purchase very costly LED flood lights because I am told I cannot use two flood lights on the one switch.

4. The front door / main entrance hallway by the stairs does not have an outlet. The outlet is cross the hall not where one would place table or holiday decorations.
5. We had 3 hanging lights installed over the bar that were supposed to be evenly spaced. The spacing is correct but with the light closest to the cabinets at the same level as the other two you are unable to open the cabinet doors.

The few other issues that I have discovered were:

A piece of cracked 3/4 inch wood flooring, We didn't make a big deal out of it because it was being covered with furnature. We had spoken to one of the KBS guys that came down a few times to correct things.
In the master boodrom the flooring job is awfull. There are numerous spots in which the seems almost touch the seem in the next row. I was so pi**ed of I couldn't bring my self to look that closely in the other bedrooms.

When the shower in the master bed room is used by my teenage kids every step they take in the shower can be heard from the noise the showerbase makes.
Also the drainage line for the water should have been wrapped with some sort of sound proofing because it is can be heard in a very large portion of the house.

We had a piece of metal trim come of one of the dormers and while I had it replaced we noticed that there are a few pieces of what the KBS workers call 200 mile white 4 inch tape left on the dormers.
They tried pealing the tape of but it would not come of the dormers.
Everything that I had read stated modular are pulled together with cables to make the house tight and this was not done. When I asked about this I was told that wasn't done with large houses.
The colonial we built is a 2 story with full attic with walk up stairs and a partial walk out basement. The dimensions are 27.6 x 52
KBS had to comeback a few times to fix things like the gable ends of the house where not secured properly in the 3rd floor, They also fixed a few dead spots with the 3rd floor plywood floor. In my opinion there would have been no dead spot in the flooring if the house had been pulled together.

There are also some dead spot with some of the hard wood flooring where it seems like the plywood was not screwed down enough.
The flooring and stairs of this house squeaks more than the 180 year old house this replaced.

Also the mounting hardware on the handicap sink in the 1st floor bathroom was installed upside down. Also I would havve thought acces doors for the shower plumbing would haver been put in as standard options.
But the main reason for my review is our kitchen counter top started to lift at the seam in under two years. I contacted Wyatt and Ray at KBS. Ray stopped in the following week on a Tuesday and looked at the counter, I didn't hear anything from him so I emailed him Monday evening. At that point he replied sorry spoke to the counter top company and they said it’s either due to water or excessive heat.
I found this kind of funny that my last countertop made out of similar materials had lasted over 30 years when we demolished our home.
For the most part I think the workmanship and quality is good, I do have complaints with the quality of the kick heaters that were installed. The Slant Fin from Home Depot is of very poor design and one needed to be repaired.
Also I don’t understand why a wall in the closet wasn’t made 4 inch’s wider to feed the dryer vent trough so it doesn't go out the roof. The lint on the shingles on the roof in the front of the house looks terrible.

At this point our family has been in the house almost 2 1/2 years and i would rate the quality of the house and the whole building experience 7 out of 10 stars.
In closing my feeling is the warranty you are given when you purchase something is only as good as the paper it is written on and I don't believe this warranty is worth anything at all.
Looking back I wish we weren’t as easy going as we are and made them correct everything we discovered wasn’t done correctly.
Again this is the experience I had in dealing with KBS Building systems.
