Last but not least was this set of 5 counter height stools to match. To be honest, chairs have always intimidated me, feeling like they are some of the most technically constructed furniture. In the end, with some intense jig making and personally stress testing the strength of all the joints, I can confidently say that these chairs will stand the test of time.
This completes this set of matching projects for my client, all finished again, in Charcoal, and I’m really proud with how they all turned out. Each piece challenged me in such a unique way, but to be on the other end of it all is such an amazing feeling!

This was the 2nd set of pieces in the collection for my client. And believe it or not, building a set of 10’ bookcase in an 8’ shop was much trickier than I anticipated... And a mantle wrap that was about as snug as possible brings it all together neat as a pin.
Finished again in Charcoal to match the expansion dining table.

This project was 2 years in the making, with 2 ways to enjoy this table, and took 2+ months of time scratching my head trying to be an engineer.

This was the 1st of 3 projects going into the clients home, all with matching oak wood finished with Charcoal

Instagram and Facebook are great for use as a portfolio, and I've really enjoyed the ways I can use it to learn new techniques and network, but it can be an amazing black hole for time and focus.
Through this newsletter, I'm hoping to bring my family, friends, and future customers into more of the heart of what I'm trying to build through this company. I'll still be here on social media, but it's going to be more a past and present blog of what I'm doing. If you want to dream along with me, head on over to my website and opt in!

GORE WARNING! SCROLL THROUGH THE PHOTOS AT YOUR OWN RISK...

Last few pics show the post-op of happens when you combine an angry angle grinder spinning at 10,000 rpm and a little sausage finger. The lesson learned for next time... don't use clamps. You might nick it with your grinder on accident 🙃
-
But in all honesty, it's a miracle from the good Lord himself that I didn't cut any bone, ligament, or main blood vessel. If you look closely, the grinder skims up my chest and even obliterates the pencils in my front chest pocket. It's also amazing to see what the human body can do to seal itself back up with a little mechanical intervention from some very skilled doctors and nurses that I'm extremely thankful for!

In the words of the children's book about a little mouse that I often read to Lou at night, "It could have been worse!"

This project nearly took my finger off, and someday I may post that photo for anyone curious enough to see what an angle grinder with a wood carving disc can do to a finger.
For now though, enjoy some of the build process, as well as the teamwork it took to get this all wrapped up. Final pics to come!
-
Thank you for commissioning me for this project. It was such a pleasure working with you and helping make this vision for a breakfast nook talbe come to life!
-
Big shoutout to for not only taking on the lathe work for the base, but also picking me up from the hospital at midnight after obliterating my finger. And also, huge thanks to for being my extra hand (literally) to help wrap up the final parts of the build. I couldn't have finished this without the two of you!

---
Believe it or not, having a baby caught me off guard FAR than I thought it would. Trying to find the balance of being a husband, business owner, and now father has been one of the most difficult challenges I've ever come up to. It's shown me some of my most glaring and ugly flaws, and has gotten me to question what I'm here to do and how I need to provide for my family through my time, character, and financial means.
---
It's only by the generous helpings of patience, grace, and love from and the good Lord himself that I have been able wade through the questions and challenges of each day. Questions like, "How do I bust my ass in the work I'm doing, but also pace myself to not collapse physically and emotionally in the evening," and "How do I bring in enough money, while also working through the MANY growing pains of owning my own business," and "How do I run my sander in the garage without waking a baby."
---
All that to say, the priorities of posting to social media have been shockingly low on the totem pole, and to be honest, I'm not sure what the future of my presence here may hold either. But until I figure that answer out out, here's a video of some recent work on a dining table for another amazing client.

My client came to me with a weatherworn folding table for their yacht that had seen a few too many days in the sun. I thought it would be a simple sand and refinish, but after mistakenly sanding through the veneer layer (last photo), I figured the only course of action was just to remake the whole thing from solid Sapele.
Sometimes the best results come from those happy accidents as Bob Ross would say…
